The document discusses the Active Healthy Minds program, a countywide partnership between public health and schools that uses physical activity to address mental wellbeing in secondary schools. It describes the rationale and whole-school approach, including universal PE/life skills programs, targeted interventions for specific cohorts, and increasing physical activity, mental health and academic achievement. The program incorporates values education, positive psychology, mindfulness, and wellbeing champions to create a holistic approach to students' physical and mental health. Evaluation data found most students enjoyed PE and wellbeing activities and linked values to their futures.

What the students love about PE and Wellbeing
@ Manor (based on qualitative & quantitative research
conducted January 2016):
92% of year 7 and 8 students have said they enjoy taking
part in PE and Wellbeing.
Within PE they enjoy linking values (empathy, resilience,
integrity) to later life as it makes them think about their
futures.
Within Positive Education they enjoy Chimp Management,
discussing values in relation to life issues (crime, terrorism,
poverty, politics) and in particular ‘Mindfulness Meditation’
(completed at the start of each lesson – Prof Mark
Williams).
What does the data say? Does it work?
34. Have you ever looked at collecting data in your own
school to test the research?
How do you continue to support young people to
achieve more academically – more of the same or
time for something different?
Is PE in the driving seat in your school?
So just before you go?

The principle of the project is to implement a pioneering approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing using Physical Education and School Sport as a driver to increase attainment and achievement in schools.
Increased Social Emotional and Physical wellbeing is achieved through
A high Quality Physical Education offer that doesn’t just develop physical skills and competences but Overtly, Explicitly and Intentionally teaches Characters skills, Life skills, employability skills as well as playing a vital role in the improving the wellbeing
Specific interventions targeted at young people at the biggest risk of underachievement
And a knowledge, information and awareness of mental health in schools providing an opportunity for early interventions.
Young people who are physically, emotionally and social well are in a better position to learn and in turn achieve their full potential. More of the same is not the best way to get results, more maths, more English more and more revision. If young people are not in the right position to learn then they will not achieve
All the research (highlight NAHT document which will be e-mail to all delegates) proves this.
