Plagiarism! Part 2 – Consequences of plagiarism
What happens if I plagiarise? First Time You will receive zero mark for the assignment. No resubmission of the assignment will be allowed.
What happens if I plagiarise? Second Time You will fail that module.
What happens if I plagiarise? Third Time The case will be referred to the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Disciplinary Committee for its deliberation. This may result in dismissal from the Polytechnic.
What happens if I plagiarise? The above procedure applies across all modules that you are studying. For example, the first instance of committing plagiarism could be in a first year IS module, and the second instance could be in a third year core module.
What happens if I plagiarise? Of course, you will be given a chance to explain any copying in your assignment that has not been properly referenced.
What happens if my friend copies my paper? If two or more students are involved in plagiarism, the penalty will apply to all students involved, regardless of who was the originator and who did the copying. Security of assignments is the students’ responsibility until the assignment is submitted to. That is, theft of an assignment, or parts of an assignment, will not be considered as excuses for plagiarism. Don’t lend your thumb drive containing your assignment to your friend!
What happens if it is a Group Project? The student responsible for the plagiarised portion will face the penalty. Where it is not clear who is responsible for the plagiarism, all group members will face the penalty. The group leader should ensure that no part of the submission has been plagiarised.
