3. HISTORY
*Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank
* He spent his time traveling up and down
the East Coast with nothing but apparel in
the trunk of his car. His first team sale came
at the end of 1996 with a
Sales $17,000
•he noticed that his compression shorts
worn during practice stayed dry. This
•inspired him to make a T-
Shirt using moisture-wicking
synthetic fabric
*Major competing brands including

*Under Armour was founded on the following core values: Innovation, Inspiration,
Reliability and Integrity. Consistent with these values, we seek to do business with
suppliers and their subcontractors that adhere to these practices, follow established
work place practices and comply with our Code of Conduct (the "Code").
*Under Armour suppliers' and their subcontractors' must deal with their employees

*Under Armour suppliers and subcontractors shall not subject any person to
discrimination in employment, including hiring, salary, benefits, advancement,
discipline, termination or retirement, on the basis of gender, race, religion, age,
disability, sexual orientation, nationality, political opinion
The fabric used to manufacture our products is sourced by our manufacturers from
suppliers pre-approved by us.
10. Out sourcing , offshoring
Under Armour’s raw materials are produced in the same places that intermediate
manufacturing and assembly take place. One half of Under Armour products come
from Asia and one fourth come from Mexico with the remaining fourth coming from
other Central American countries. When the materials are produced, and the
products are manufactured and assembled,
the company has outsourced its manufacturing and production it can be said to be
vertically integrated because it has combined stages of production to gain more
control of its inputs and its outputs to gain more control of its supply systems in
order to produce better merchandise and satisfy customers
The development of the raw materials, manufacturing and assembling are all offshored
in order to cut costs. Since these operations are completed in Asia and Central America,
its is possible to find cheaper labor and cheaper overhead for the factories there. This is
beneficial for the company however by offshoring these early operations the company
does lose some control over the quality and the production of products.

14. DECENTRALIZED PURCHASE
The company obviously tries to compete at a global
level which can be seen by their international offices
in China, Indonesia and Canada. Although Under
Armour has offices in these locations the fact that
their main distribution center is in the U.S. reflects
that this is their primary source of business and sales.
This suggests that the emphasis of the company’s
corporate strategy is sales in the United States.
15. Logistics (shipping)
Under Armour is partnered with Federal Express, including
SmartPost. SmartPost is a service that’s first initiated by FedEx,
but the final delivery is the responsibility of your local US
Postal Service. Ultimately, your shipping carrier is based on
your location. This guarantees your gear arrives when you
expect it.
We mostly ship from Under Armour’s hometown of Baltimore,
MD. Under certain circumstances, we also may ship from
California to ensure you get your gear on time.
17. bullwhip
Through the numerous stages of a supply
chain; key factors such as time and supply
of order decisions, demand for the supply,
lack of communication and disorganization
can result in one of the most common
problems in supply chain management.
This common problem is known as the
bullwhip effect; also sometimes the
whiplash effect
