  4. 4. Honeywell + Microsoft fully digitize buildings Honeywell and Microsoft are combining forces to bring predictive maintenance to the buildings industry. Honeywell Forge will integrate with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service to generate real time data analytics that help operators gain efficiencies and solve problems faster. Honeywell’s AI and IoT- based software helps reduce energy consumption by 10-20% by providing better oversight and control of heating and ventilation systems, while Dynamics 365 reduces facility downtime by remotely detecting and addressing maintenance issues. The solutions will be scaled via the cloud to help buildings digitize their maintenance, security and energy systems. Read full article Copyright © 2020 Accenture. All rights reserved.4

The Android and iOS app can monitor battery and fuel status, create maintenance logs, and provide alerts and helpful instructions when maintenance is needed. The app is compatible with Ranger 225, 250 and 305 models after a quick installation of the accompanying NEXTime Wireless Module. Read full article

The pair have already developed 20 use cases across industries, including in life sciences and personal care. The next five years will build on that work, with cloud solutions that bring together industrial data from development, operations and maintenance teams into one environment. Customers can then use that data to build and test digital prototypes at a far lower cost than real world trials. By bringing data together into one ecosystem, companies can also more easily and securely share that data with partners.

The company is using the groundbreaking robot, named Goknuri, to shape steel plates into curved ones for front and rear ship hulls, at temperatures of above 800C. Goknuri is working on hulls at Daewoo’s shipyard on Geoje Island, south of Seoul. The robot was completed around three years after Daewoo first launched the project.

Sandvik buys CGTech simulation tech Read full article The Swedish engineering company will acquire the US software firm at the end of this year. A key component of the acquisition is VERICUT, CGTech’s machining simulation and optimization software, which is machine and cutting tool neutral and can work by itself or in conjunction with other computer-aided manufacturing tools. Sandvik plans to use the software to strengthen its own machining intelligence capabilities. “This will not only strengthen our leading market position in all parts of the world but will enable us to take a big step forward in offering full machining solutions to our customers, which will reduce waste significantly in their broader value chain," says Nadine Crauwels, President of Sandvik Machining Solutions. 8

Nexen, working in conjunction with Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group and Inha University in Korea, tested tire sounds in an anechoic chamber fitted with microphone sensors, and with real vehicles in a special research facility. Data gathered from the tests - carried out with vehicles braking on snow, wet surfaces and more - was used to create an AI trained on tire patterns and the noise levels they produce. The AI used image processing software to generate a new tire design optimized to reduce noise levels to 1 decibel internally, and 3 decibels externally. Nexen plans to collaborate with car manufacturers worldwide to scale these new findings. 9

TX- FUELBOT tracks data from truck telematics, planning and routing systems, along with fuel prices. Based on this information it automatically alerts drivers to the cheapest refuel stops enroute, and exactly when to use them. The tool can reduce a fleet’s fuel costs by an estimated 21%. TX-FUELBOT will be launched under the Transics brand as part of ZF’s WABCO Fleet Management Systems range. However, a version that can be integrated using third party software is also in the works. The company plans to distribute the technology in Europe, the Middle East and Turkey. BEST VALUE

The Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer - best known as iPhone-maker Foxconn - is set to launch the MIH EV Open Platform for Hardware and Software, a platform that promises to help EV makers reduce costs and launch new models faster. Software and hardware designs and updates will be shared directly with developers and manufacturers in the MIH ecosystem. Foxconn believes the platform will lower the barriers to entry, encouraging more players into the EV market and accelerating progress. Foxconn is aiming for the platform to become an Android-style system for the industry, indicating its hopes to dominate the sector. The company also plans to release the first commercial solid-state batteries in 2024.
