Leisure travel spending (inbound and domestic) generated 73.3% of direct Travel & Tourism GDP in 2012 (US$641.4bn) compared with 26.7% for business travel spending (US$234.0bn). Leisure travel spending is expected to grow by 1.9% in 2013 to US$653.5bn, and rise by 3.6% pa to US$929.6bn in 20231. Trip planning sources have shifted over the last several years, with social media and mobile devices being used more often. In 2012, nearly one-quarter (23%) of domestic leisure travelers relied on friends and relatives to plan their trips, while three in ten (31%) utilized their own past experiences.
