The presentation gave insight about the basics of solving a problem of waterlogging which involves Design Thinking and come up with the solution by following the Design Methodology that would help the people so that they will not become the victim of waterlogging situations.

The aim of the project is to
notify the people of Guwahati
about the waterlogging places
in Guwahati city so that they
can prevented from becoming
the part of any disaster that
occur due to floods and can

6. I went on to study a series of research papers and newsarticles to get familiar with the
problems faced by the people of Guwahati during waterlogging situations and the
reasons for which waterlogging situations occurs and the current state of the art.

10. The drainage system in Guwahati is not yet fully developed. The drains are very narrow
as they have not been upgraded since many decades. Also, the garbage, which is very
often thrown in the drains, tends to block the path of the sewage. Hence the water,
having no place to accumulate gets overflowed and fills the streets. Although it is
common for the streets to get waterlogged, yet it is uncommon for the major roads and
the national highway to submerge in it. But as it has been noticed, the major roads and
the national highway too have problems of waterlogging. The drains by their sides do
not have the capacity to hold the rainwater which rushes down the hills.

11. • School and office goers face immense problem due to waterlogging in the streets
during busy morning hours.
• Water entered the house of the residents.
• Causes traffic jams due to the water-logging in lanes and bye-lanes together with
the bad conditions of the roads.
• It affects all kinds of business, commercial and educational activities.
• Most of the street light poles fall down which generate electric current in the water
and which leads to death of many people.

14. From the literature study it was identified that large number of people are facing
problems due to waterlogging situations in Guwahati so all the users were identified at
first and after considering all the users some users were finalized to make them target
user group and then their goals were identified and then scenarios and personas are
made accordingly.

Scenario 1 :- For Office Goers
A man who go to office daily at 9 am from his car
and if workload is more then sometimes in weekends
also he has to go. He uses the same path daily for
going to his office. Now there is a rainy season and
most of the areas of Guwahati city is waterlogged
and he is completely unaware of which area is
waterlogged and which is not so he picked his same
path which he uses daily and he get stuck in an
waterlogged area which become very dangerous for
him as his whole car was blocked and he can’t able
to open the door of his car even and he get stuck in
that situation for long.

Scenario 2 :- For people who are going to shops
A man going to his shop which is 9.6 kms from his
house. He daily start at 10 am in morning and work
up to 8 pm and after buying some vegetables he
reaches home and cook food for himself. Now there
is a rainy season and he is not aware of the
waterlogging situations in Guwahati city and he get
stuck in one of the waterlogged area which leads to
detection of some amount from his salary because
he has to take a leave without prior notice.

from waterlogging situations and if they are on their way to work then and get to know
about the waterlogging situations then how they can save themselves from
