AIT REMAINS TOP-RANKED INTERNATIONAL
UNIVERSITY ACCORDING TO LATEST RANKINGS
T
he Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has
maintained its position as the world’s top
international university once again, bagging six
perfect scores for the second consecutive year in the
category of “International Orientation” in the latest
edition of U-Multirank’s “Annual World Rankings of
Universities” released on 6 June 2018.
AIT is the only university in Asia to be ranked at the
global top in international orientation, and this is the
third time in the past four years that AIT has achieved
this impressive result.
In the 2018 U-Multirank findings, AIT has maintained its
numero uno position in all six categories of international
orientation — foreign language bachelor programs, for-
eign language master programs, student mobility, inter-
national academic staff, international joint publications,
and international doctorate degrees. “The latest round
of rankings where AIT is ranked as the top international
university once again does not come as a surprise,” AIT
President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai said. Overall, AIT
has 12 perfect scores, with six top positions in the cat-
egories of ‘international orientation’, three in ‘research’,
and three in ‘knowledge transfer’. See also Page 2.

Besides international orientation, AIT has also been rated among
the world’s top 25 performing universities in the category of “In-
come from Continuous Professional Development,” a honour that
only three Asian universities can be proud of.
AIT’s performance in ‘Income from Continuous Professional De-
velopment’ is reflective of the Institute’s offerings in continuing
education. According to U-Multirank, this indicator is related to the
level of knowledge transfer, and it indicates that a university is ac-
tive in providing continuous professional education courses to com-
panies and individuals by transferring knowledge to external actors.
“AIT’s performance in continuous professional development is in
tune with our vision of providing lifelong learning, where learning
does not end with a students’ graduation, but continues for a life-
time," AIT President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai remarked.

(MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Roor-
kee, India, to promote joint academic and research ac-
tivities. At the exchange ceremony of the MoU held on
22 June 2018, Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT
Roorkee, described AIT as a “natural partner,” stating
that the two institutes have complementary strengths.
“I am sure that this agreement will sow the seeds
of more partnerships in the coming decades,” Prof.
Chaturvedi remarked. The IIT Director said that the
very first step to operationalize the MoU could be an
exchange of students.
AIT’s Vice President for Administration, Prof. Kazuo
Yamamoto highlighted the strong linkage between
AIT and India, adding that not only does India contrib-
ute the second-largest cohort of students, but it also re-
ceives faculty members seconded by the Government

adopt the anaerobic digester technology perfected atAIT.
A team led by Prof. C Visvanathan and Dr. Abdul Salam of School of En-
vironment, Resources and Development have unveiled a 'Anaerobic Di-

  • 1. 1JULY 2018 Asian Institute of Technology JULY 2018 AIT REMAINS TOP-RANKED INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ACCORDING TO LATEST RANKINGS T he Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has maintained its position as the world’s top international university once again, bagging six perfect scores for the second consecutive year in the category of “International Orientation” in the latest edition of U-Multirank’s “Annual World Rankings of Universities” released on 6 June 2018. AIT is the only university in Asia to be ranked at the global top in international orientation, and this is the third time in the past four years that AIT has achieved this impressive result. In the 2018 U-Multirank findings, AIT has maintained its numero uno position in all six categories of international orientation — foreign language bachelor programs, for- eign language master programs, student mobility, inter- national academic staff, international joint publications, and international doctorate degrees. “The latest round of rankings where AIT is ranked as the top international university once again does not come as a surprise,” AIT President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai said. Overall, AIT has 12 perfect scores, with six top positions in the cat- egories of ‘international orientation’, three in ‘research’, and three in ‘knowledge transfer’. See also Page 2. Besides international orientation, AIT has also been rated among the world’s top 25 performing universities in the category of “In- come from Continuous Professional Development,” a honour that only three Asian universities can be proud of. AIT’s performance in ‘Income from Continuous Professional De- velopment’ is reflective of the Institute’s offerings in continuing education. According to U-Multirank, this indicator is related to the level of knowledge transfer, and it indicates that a university is ac- tive in providing continuous professional education courses to com- panies and individuals by transferring knowledge to external actors. “AIT’s performance in continuous professional development is in tune with our vision of providing lifelong learning, where learning does not end with a students’ graduation, but continues for a life- time," AIT President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai remarked.
