Stress reduction
• Earlier, the Consortium of National Law Universities
had decided to change the pattern of the Common
Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2020, the undergraduate
entrance test for admission in law institutions, to
reduce stress among students and promote healthy
competition among them.

Dates
• As per the notification by Consortium of National
Law Universities, the application deadline for CLAT
2020 has been extended till
10 July from 1 July.

CLAT 2020 Application Fee
If you want to have the previous year question papers of CLAT 2020, then you have to pay an
extra amount of Rs. 500 with the application fee.

Withdraw from CLAT 2020
• Candidates who withdraw from CLAT 2020 will
get back their application fee after a
deduction of Rs 400 for SC/ST candidates and
Rs 500 for other applicants. Refunds will be
made by 18 July.

CLAT 2020 exam centres
• The full list of CLAT 2020 exam centres, where
the computer-based exam will be held, will be
announced by the consortium on 1 July.
Candidates will be allowed to select or
reconfirm their test centres or withdraw their
registration by 10 July.

LLM programme
• The consortium has said that the CLAT 2020
for LLM programme will no longer have the
descriptive section. Instead, candidates will
have to answer 120 multiple choice questions
(MCQs). “There will be no descriptive section
in CLAT 2020,” the notification said.

• A report by India Legal mentions that CLAT
2020 will use a “Social Distanced Computer
Based Testing” model which will enable a
rapid restart of assessments with due
compliance to social distancing norms and
other precautions will be followed to ensure
prevention of the spread of coronavirus.

Topics covered in UG CLAT papers
The CLAT paper for the undergraduate
students is divided into five sections covering
subjects like the English language (including
comprehension), current affairs and general
knowledge, legal reasoning, logical reasoning,
and quantitative techniques/elementary
mathematics.
The postgraduate CLAT paper will cover topics
like constitutional law, jurisprudence, and
other law subjects like contracts, torts,
criminal law, international law, IPR, etc.

Eligibility criteria for appearing in
CLAT 2020
Candidates having a minimum score of 45% in
10+2 (or equivalent) and those who are
appearing for 10+2 in March/April are eligible
for CLAT 2020.
Coming to PG eligibility, candidates having an
LLB degree (or equivalent) and a minimum
score of 50% in the qualifying exam can
appear for CLAT 2020. Those who're going to
take the qualifying exam in April/May can
also apply.

For the UG Law Courses:
Age limit –No upper age limit for candidates
who wish to apply for CLAT 2020.
Qualification – Candidates must have
completed 10+2 from a recognized board.

EXAM PATTERN
• The duration of the exam is 120 minutes.
• For every right answer, they will be awarded
one mark;
• negative marking also applies to wrong
answers (-0.25 per wrong answer).
