When an accident occurs, it is vital to analyze the chain of events that led to such outcome, especially if the consequences are tragic. Involved parties, including participants themselves, their family members, legal institutions and insurance companies require information and we are doing our best to keep them informed.In this session we will present our advancements in accident analysis, starting with the basics of accident reconstruction and changes in market demands and ending with displaying geographic information in 3D space as well as using Google StreetView API to re-create realistic 3D environments. Aleksis is a software developer in Scope Technologies with more than 10 years of experience in various software development platforms, currently focusing on .NET, JavaScript and ThreeJS.

In the first decade of the 21st century, we've seen the business of location intelligence moving well beyond the traditional domains of surveying, remote sensing and spatial analysis. Sometimes referred to as 'neo-geography', we see the rapid emergence of location technologies in new areas such as Location-based Marketing, Augmented Reality, Crowdsourcing, Crisis Mapping, and Gaming. Most of these implementations are (very successfully) being developed by non-GIS practitioners, who don't know, nor care, about projections, topology, or CORS networks. This presentation will look at this rapidly moving field through some recent examples, and poses questions such as: should we be worried, and will there be any registered surveyors left in 20 years time?

As edge devices become more powerful and capable of running sophisticated applications, the edge servers have to keep pace with development. The challenge for edge computing is that these servers and devices are distributed geographically across many sites and sometimes inaccessible. The Docker platform is designed for distributed computing and provides an easy way to securely distribute and run applications at the edge. In this session, we will outline some of the major trends around edge computing and the common architectures and use cases across different industries. We will highlight some of the work we’re doing with our customers to deliver on these edge use cases and where Docker is headed.

It’s easy to find and create data. But what are you going to do with it? Can I ask the world complex questions such as what’s the local crime rate, distance to metro, or rating of my local school? Can you combine these all together to rate houses you may want to buy? And how do you then connect back to your government and local businesses to engage in collaborative decision making. This talk with discuss how you should consider users and their personal interactions with data and information. We’ll also peel back the covers on how open source tools such as HBase, Cascading, Geos and Polymaps handle analyzing and streaming realtime data to maps and visualizations both on the web and to mobile devices. To illustrate what’s possible, we’ll dive through GeoCommons, a large online community of data sharing and community analytics that uses open source mapping visualization, Hadoop analysis, and mobile interfaces to provide this to the world. Users can even build and socialize their own analysis methods to share their expert knowledge with other users. We’ll also review how global organizations like the World Bank and United Nations are using these tools to connect with citizens in developing countries to empower them to make decisions on building investment and understanding how climate science may affect their areas.
