3. Introduction
• Social work is a profession among the social sciences that endeavors
to improve the lives of individuals, groups, and societies. It
incorporates and uses other social sciences as a means to improve
human conditions with practice based. This research attempts to
present an overview of establishing harmony and peace in Sri Lanka
based on the Social Work intervention.
4. Methodology
• Based on quantitative and qualitative research methodology.
• Based on code of conducts of Social Work Practice.
5. What is Social Work?
• “The social work profession promotes social change, problem solving
in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of
people to enhance wellbeing. Utilizing theories of human behaviour
and social system, social work intervenes at the points where people
interact with their environments. Principals of human rights and
social justice are fundamental to social work,”
• (IASSW and IFSW, 2001)
6. Social Work Intervention
• Social Work intervention should be taken as bird view is an elevated
view of an object from above, with a perspective as though
the observer were a bird. Without limit any religion, race or
nationality should be investigated.
7. Attitudinal Change
Following attitudes should be encouraged;
• Enhance the national integration considering Sri Lanka as a sovereign
state
• Sri Lanka is a nation consists of several communal groups such as
Sinhala, Tamil and Muslims.
• Sri Lanka is a multi-ethnic state where everyone is equal in front of
law. It is a unity homeland of all of its citizens.
• It is required to create patriotism in order to promote the national
integration.
8. Disadvantages of Religious Conflicts.
• Bad image on Sri Lanka
• Disappearing the harmony and peace
• Dawn fall the growth of economy
• Spreading doubt on other religion
• Hatred spreading generation to generation
• Insulting other religion
9. Suggestions
• Implementation of nation policy for all nationality.
• Housing plan, economic policy or law should be equal for all
nationality.
• Reforms of education policies.
• Country men should be allowed to visit any religious place.
• Introducing religious academic courses.
10. Conclusion
• Human being should not be marginalized based on his/her race,
gender, language and religion and importance in promoting
understanding, tolerance and friendship among human beings in all
their diversity of religion, belief, culture and language, and recalling
that all States have pledged themselves under the charter to promote
and encourage universal respect through observance of human rights
and fundamental freedoms for all, regardless of their race, sex,
language or race.
