Identity is one of the cornerstones of application security. On windows domains, identity is managed through Active Directory (AD) Domain service on the Domain Controller (DC). Therefore, it should come as no surprise that advanced attackers are actively targeting the DC. Earlier this year, Dell Secureworks had shared a report on an advanced attack campaign utilizing a dedicated DC malware, named “Skeleton Key” Malware. The Skeleton Key malware modifies the DC behavior to accept authentications specifying a secret ”Skeleton key” (i.e. “master key”) password, thus enabling the attackers to login from any computer as any domain user without installing any additional malware while keeping the original users’ authentication behavior. On this talk, we will explore the unique interaction between such malware functionality and the Kerberos authentication protocol; We will put a special emphasis on its manifestation over the network traffic. We will also share a script that implements the remotes detection of the skeleton key malware functionality. The talk was given on TCE2015 summer school, Technion, Israel

Slides are mainly on the major security flaws that existed in the Bluetooth 4.0/4.1 (released 2010) specifically Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE) (a.k.a Bluetooth Smart) specification. BLE was introduced as part of Bluetooth 4.0 targeting low power devices which is quite different from classic Bluetooth. Later part contains major security enhancements that are introduced in BLE 4.2

In this deck from IWOCL / SYCLcon 2020, Hal Finkel from Argonne National Laboratory presents: Preparing to program Aurora at Exascale - Early experiences and future directions. "Argonne National Laboratory’s Leadership Computing Facility will be home to Aurora, our first exascale supercomputer. Aurora promises to take scientific computing to a whole new level, and scientists and engineers from many different fields will take advantage of Aurora’s unprecedented computational capabilities to push the boundaries of human knowledge. In addition, Aurora’s support for advanced machine-learning and big-data computations will enable scientific workflows incorporating these techniques along with traditional HPC algorithms. Programming the state-of-the-art hardware in Aurora will be accomplished using state-of-the-art programming models. Some of these models, such as OpenMP, are long-established in the HPC ecosystem. Other models, such as Intel’s oneAPI, based on SYCL, are relatively-new models constructed with the benefit of significant experience. Many applications will not use these models directly, but rather, will use C++ abstraction libraries such as Kokkos or RAJA. Python will also be a common entry point to high-performance capabilities. As we look toward the future, features in the C++ standard itself will become increasingly relevant for accessing the extreme parallelism of exascale platforms. This presentation will summarize the experiences of our team as we prepare for Aurora, exploring how to port applications to Aurora’s architecture and programming models, and distilling the challenges and best practices we’ve developed to date. oneAPI/SYCL and OpenMP are both critical models in these efforts, and while the ecosystem for Aurora has yet to mature, we’ve already had a great deal of success. Importantly, we are not passive recipients of programming models developed by others. Our team works not only with vendor-provided compilers and tools, but also develops improved open-source LLVM-based technologies that feed both open-source and vendor-provided capabilities. In addition, we actively participate in the standardization of OpenMP, SYCL, and C++. To conclude, I’ll share our thoughts on how these models can best develop in the future to support exascale-class systems." Learn how to build your own testing and debugging environment for analysing IoT firmware images. Bug hunting in IoT firmware requires access to debugging, instrumentation and reverse engineering tools. In this workshop, we shall learn how to extract firmware from a few ARM IoT devices, deploy the extracted filesystems on an ARM QEMU environment, and emulate the firmware as close to the original hardware environment as possible. We shall also learn how to intercept and emulate NVRAM access to faithfully reproduce the exact configuration available on the actual device. Participants are required to bring a laptop capable of running VMware Workstation/Fusion/Player. We shall distribute a virtual machine with ARM QEMU along with firmware images extracted on the spot from a few SoHo routers and IP Cameras. The methodology discussed in this workshop is put together from the author’s own beats. While we use ARM as the base platform, the same methodology can also work for MIPS or other embedded architectures.

Malicious hardware is a mature topic but previous research has focused almost exclusively on theoretical applications. In this article, practical implementations of gate-level backdoors will be presented using the Verilog hardware description language, then simulated and finally synthesized using freely available deep sub-micron (45-180 nm) standard cells, resulting in a backdoored latest-generation ARM CPU, suitable for fabrication and massive deployment.

I also do consulting if you get stuck or need help @@@ numberboost.com :P "Most CCTV video cameras exist as a sort of time machine for insurance purposes. Deep neural networks make it easy to convert video into actionable data which can be used to trigger real-time anomaly alerts and optimize complex business processes. In addition to commercial applications, deep learning can be used to analyze large amounts of video recorded from the point of view of animals to study complex behavior patterns impossible to otherwise analyze. This talk will present some theory of deep neural networks for video applications as well as academic research and several applied real-world industrial examples, with code examples in python." When you’re building (micro)services, you have lots of framework options. Spring Boot is no doubt a popular choice. But there’s more! Take Quarkus, a framework that’s considered the rising star for Kubernetes-native Java. It always depends on what's best for your situation, but how to choose the best solution if you're comparing 2 frameworks? Both Spring Boot and Quarkus have their positives and negatives. Let us compare the two by live coding a couple of common use cases in Spring Boot and Quarkus. After this talk, you’ll be ready to get started with Quarkus yourself, and know when to select Quarkus or Spring Boot.

The action of the next cyber saga takes place in the mystical lands of the Asia-Pacific region, where the main characters began their digital activities in the middle of 2021 and qualitatively strengthened it in 2022. Corporate espionage, document theft, audio recordings, and data leaks from messaging platforms were all a matter of one day for Dark Pink. Their geographical focus may have started in the Asia-Pacific region, but their ambitions knew no bounds, targeting a European government ministry in a bold move to expand their portfolio. Their victim profile was as diverse as a UN meeting, targeting military organizations, government agencies, and even a religious organization. Because discrimination is not a fashionable agenda. In the world of cybercrime, they serve as a reminder that sometimes the most serious threats come in the most unassuming packages with a pink bow.

Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. And the challenges of these different technology platforms working together for a brighter future.
