The test hypothesis is

The test statistic is
t=(xbar-)/(s/n)
=(78.375-85)/(11.56/sqrt(8))
=-1.62
Given a=0.05, the critical value is t(0.025, df=n-1=7)=-2.36 (check student t table)
Since t=-1.62 is larger than -2.36, we do not reject Ho.
Answer: The girl’s average is not significantly different from the class.
