LG’s Ultra HD Touch Display
LG Display has announced plans to introduce a range of Ultra HD 4K TVs at CES 2013. It has
previously revealed its $20,000 flagship 84-inch model the LG Ultra HD Touch Display, that is
now expanding to include new 55- and 65-inch models at a presumably more wallet-friendly
price. Also set to take a bow is a new Ultra HD 30-inch computer monitor that will be the highest
resolution monitor ever to hit the market.
Ultra HD resolution, previously referred to more frequently as 4K, is four times that of a 1080p
display. Ultra HD displays, regardless of size, will pack in 3840×2160 pixels and are slowly
gaining momentum. The format first started appearing in shipping consumer products early in
2012, although there is little in the way of content that has been shoot in the format. Most users
early adopters will only be able to watch native Ultra HD on video camcorders that can shoot in
the 4K, otherwise they are currently relying on upscaling from 1080p.
In addition to the Ultra new TVs and monitor, LG Display will also be taking the covers off a new
5.5-inch mobile display with 1080p capability, a 7-inch 1,920×1200 resolution display and a
Retina-busting 12.9-inch display with a resolution of 2,560×1,700 pixels. Thin bezels are also in,
with LG showing a 13.3-inch notebook display with a 2mm bezel and a 4.7-inch display with a
1mm bezel.
