Let’s Learn This
Are your answers like these?

2.
3.
4.
5.
Don’t worry Learner, you will be guided as you do the activities.
Read the verse and answer the following questions. Take note of
the underlined words.
Let’s Study This
Life
Life is the daily sight of a farmer
going to his farm daily.
Life is the early call of the
“pandesal” boy telling us to wake up early,
Life is the fast rising of the
sun that shines on the earth which goes around it fast.
Life is the late realization that life is
gone and we discover it late.
53
1. How is life described in the verse?
2. How are we going to live our life wisely?
3. What words are mentioned twice in the verse?
- daily, early, fast, late
Study the chart below. These are the descriptive words mentioned
twice in the verse with the words they describe.
A B
daily sight
early call
fast rising
late realization
going to his farm daily
wake up early
goes around it fast
discover it late
- What do the underlined words in Column A modify?
- How are they used?
Words in column A modify nouns. They are used as
adjectives.
- What do the underlined words in Column B modify?
- How are they used?
Words in column B modify verbs. They are used as adverbs.
- How can we tell whether a word is used as an adjective or as an
adverb.
A word is used as an adjective if it modifies a noun or a
pronoun.
A word is used as an adverb if it modifies a verb, an
adjective or another adverb.
There are words that may be used as adverbs or adjectives
depending on how they are used in the sentence.
Look at the examples:
1. We arrived early at the airport.
2. So we took an early flight to our destination.
In the first sentence, early modifies arrived, which is a verb.
So it is used as an adverb. In the second sentence, early
modifies flight, which is a noun, so it is used as an adjective.
54
Here are words that can function as adverbs or as adjevtives:
nice
fast
good
well
bad
slow
late
hard
soft
loud
early
straight
direct
long
sweet
Change the following adjectives to adverbs by adding –ly. Do this
in your notebook.

adjectives depending on how they are used in the sentence.

an adjective. When it modifies a verb, an adjective or
