Project proposal title and date:
Sustainability within York college
Main area of activity
Educational Documentary. It will have interviews and video shots of the college.
Target Audience
16-24, my project is based around college which is a college/university centre that is full of
young adults around ages 16-28yrs. The project would be used to showcase what we are
doing as a college and what we look to do in the future
Rationale:
Throughout my York college, I felt like I had a good plan of what I wanted to create and
made sure I stuck to it. It made the entire process much easier, which is something I want
to carry out in this project.
During my music video project, I got to experiment with cameras which I will take the
knowledge I learned with me in this project.
Project Concept:
The concept of my documentary is to create an educational short documentary for the York
college students to view so they can learn about the sustainability we have at York college,
and how we are going to improve it in the future. I also want to talk about how students are
involved. My aim for the documentary is to make it 3-5 minutes long, with 2 interviews
included. For the interviews, I want them to be set up in a light, indoor classroom where a
camera is set up on a tripod. I want only one camera for the interviews, as I want the video
to be educational and not build tension or create a story. I need to research different
documentary genre types as so I can stick to the genre conventions to make sure my
documentary is as clear as possible. I will also need to do some research on where the
sustainability of York college is displayed for the public to see, so is there a social media?
Is it important for York college? Etc. Research on York’s sustainability may come in use as
well.
I want students to see the project and take away with knowledge of what we do for
sustainability of York college, what we look to do in the future, and how we can help.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
Throughout my work, I will be having a production diary so I can reflect after each day of
work. This will help when I complete the evaluation where I will look at my project. It will
help me look on what worked well, what didn’t, what I could do differently in the future, and
what skills I used and gained.

Week Specific Tasks
1 Production [in/out?]
2 Production [in/out?]
3 Production [in/out?]
4 Production [in/out?]
Be aware which of those weeks are in or out of college, as you may need to plan different tasks around other
work when working remotely. Budget for approximately 30 hours for production – which is roughly two weeks
of your in college time.
