This document discusses two use cases for implementing geographic information systems (GIS) in train running operations. The first case involves reporting sheep on the tracks, which requires tools for searching infrastructure by location, viewing lines, and finding access points. The second case is an incident where a trailer fell off a bridge, requiring tools for searching, viewing lines and infrastructure, sketching the incident, and tracking field workers. The presentation concludes by discussing expanding the prototype to an industrial solution and pursuing shared GIS symbology between railway organizations.

20. And now …
From this prototype to an industrial solution:
- First deployment Q4 2012
- Integration with Service Disruption Software 2014
Our targets:
- GIS components and services available for business applications
integration
- A shared GIS symbology among differents railways businesses
- Network tracks, geographic and schematics
Why don’t we work on a shared symbology among IMs and RUs ?
