This document provides an introduction to a student project involving the artistic elements of line and the media technique of stop motion animation. It will explain line as an element of art, define stop motion animation and provide examples of stop motion movies. It outlines that students will first draw a pattern using different line techniques, capturing each frame in the FrameByFrame software to create a stop motion video. It provides a timeline of 2 weeks for drawing and filming, then 1 week for editing before projects are graded.

Line Stop Motion Presentation
1. Line and stop motion introduction Media Arts Benton Middle School Mrs. McMath
2. Line and stop motion For our next project, we will be using Line (Element of Art) and Stop Motion (Media and Technology Integration). In this presentation you will learn about Line, Stop Motion, and the software program FrameByFrame.
4. What is stop motion? Stop motion is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. Objects are moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Clay figures are often used in stop motion for their ease of repositioning.
5. Stop motion movies Coraline Gumby and Pokey Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
7. line Line: A continuous mark made on some surface by a moving point.
8. line Parallel to the horizon. Emotions: Peace and Stillness. Straight up and down. Emotions: Dignity, Stiffness, Formality Horizontal Vertical
9. line Slant in different directions. Emotions: Action, Excitement, Tension Combination of diagonal lines which move in different directions at opposite angles. Emotions: Confusion, Explosive Action, Nervous Excitement Diagonal Zigzag
10. line Change direction gradually. Emotions: Slow, Flowing Movement, Gracefulness, Fluid Motion Curved
11. line Lines can be short or long. Lines can be wide or skinny. Length Width
13. line Lines going in the same direction. Lines that cross. Hatching Crosshatching
14. How will we start with stop motion and line? Our first project will start with drawing! You will draw a pattern using the Element of Art: Line. You MUST have a MINIMUM of45frames. This creates the best quality stop motion film.
15. THEN….. You will begin to draw your pattern while capturing each addition to your pattern in FameByFrame. Please bring in any drawing tools from home you would like to use for this project!
16. timeline 2 weeks to draw patterns and capture work in FrameByFrame 1 week foriMovie editing, exporting. Guidelines review and grading! Timeline will be adjusted as needed.
