Given all the buzz about creating online portals as a way to ‘engage patients’ – we were happy to have Eileen Hughes of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (a healthcare benefits manager who lives with type 1 diabetes and several other health conditions) evaluate whether Open Notes really stands up to all the hype, at the 2015 DiabetesMine Innovation Summit at Stanford.

  14. 14. • The notes are yours. • Don’t need a specific technology or software to share visit notes. • Doctors can easily email or mail copies of typed or hand-written notes to patients. • Encourage clinicians to print out or copy their notes for patients. • Sharing notes does not change the clinicians’ longstanding pledge of confidentiality • Patients may choose to share their notes with caregivers, family members and others.
