Jeffery Whippo Explains that Poor Mental Health and Stress Negatively Affects Job Performance

  1. 1. Jeffery Whippo Explains that Poor Mental Health and Stress Negatively Affects Job Performance Jeffery D Whippo shares that by addressing mental health issues in the workplace, employers can reduce health care costs for their businesses and employees. After all, the workplace can be a key location for activities designed to improve well-being among adults. Thus, the workplace wellness programs can identify those at risk and connect them to treatment and put in place supports to help people reduce and manage stress. According to him, poor mental health and stress can negatively affect the job performance and productivity of the employees. It will also affect their engagement with other’s work and communication with coworkers. The employees at high risk of depression have the highest health care costs during the three years after an initial health risk assessment. Stress is thought to affect organizations by impairing performance and productivity, increasing complaints from clients and customers, increasing liability to legal claims and actions by stressed workers, and increasing unsafe working practices and accident rates. Jeffery Whippo further states that with a positive attitude, proper planning, stress managing tips, and healthy habits, one can turn bad stress into good stress to keep himself/herself motivated. Whippo shares the fact that the measures that employers take to prevent stress in the workplace will depend on aspects of the business and what causes of stress they have identified.
