Implementing the vision
We have until 2012 to have a go at realising the vision
Short iterative bursts of activity to allow us to
constantly correct and adjust our approach as we go

6 projects starting in January
Will release open structured metadata about museum, library and archive
collections
Institutional projects

What they’ll produce
Open metadata about useful and unique
collections
Knowledge about usefulness of
structured data approach
Processes that other institutions can
follow
Skills in dealing with structured data

Already some work happening in this area that will
provide useful metadata and knowledge
Openbib - http://code.google.com/p/jiscexpo/wiki/jiscopenbib
Opencite - http://code.google.com/p/jiscexpo/wiki/jiscopencite
Lucero - http://code.google.com/p/jiscexpo/wiki/luceroproject
Locah - http://code.google.com/p/jiscexpo/wiki/locah
We’ll build on these and will inform RDTF approach
15. Joint Information Systems Committee 29/01/2015 | Supporting education and research | Slide 15
Enhance existing aggregations e.g. Copac and Suncat
Make them more open through addition of apis etc
Add new services and functionality – collection management
Will start in January
17. Joint Information Systems Committee 29/01/2015 | Supporting education and research | Slide 17
We have funded an RDTF management framework
project at Mimas to:
•Create a central website
•Share knowledge
•Access to metadata that can be reused
•Address the big issues: Sustainability, licensing,
metadata and technical
Very collaborative – Edina, collections trust etc
Will be renamed
What about all the big issues I’ve glossed over so
far?

How can you get involved?

Editor's Notes
What national infrastructure for resource discovery in HE libraries museums and archives would we build if we started from scratch?Discussed this over 4 meetings with input from vendors and edina and mima
Implementing the visionWe have until 2012 to have a go at realising the visionThe vision is pleasantly baggy so we can tailor and adjust our approach as we find out more about the issues and as we learn from developments elsewhereShort iterative bursts of activity to allow us to constantly correct and adjust our approach as we goBe pragmatic! Do something useful!
Not just heJISC funding focused on he but if want to make it useful for researchers and avoid creating a giant silo – need to think broader to include other sectors and nations
Management frameworkMIMASVery collaborative – edina, collections trust etcCentral identitySustainability, technical concerns and licensingMetadata studyCollect knowledge from elsewhereBe pragmatic! Be useful! Will be renamed
Comms and relationshipLot of stakeholdersLot of different viewsLot of complementary workWant to ensure we keep up with this Want to ensure we digest and communicate it to people like youHave tender out for people to work on this with usForms management team with mf and me
Wider picture – european work, aus and nz, nat lib work, vendor work
Lot going on, why is it all going onOBD guide to help explain and guide through all the workComments welcome Will seek to develop this through the management framework
