From audience feedback on their horror teaser trailer, the students learned:
- The trailer successfully established the main character without giving too much away.
- While most felt the titles created an eerie atmosphere, 20% felt they could be improved.
- 90% felt the repeated priest/cross scene created tension and suspense.
- The majority felt the right amount of story was given away, though 20% thought it was too much or too little.
- Feedback indicated the burning church scene was only alright and could be improved with better filming equipment and effects.
- 100% agreed the soundtrack fit the theme and emphasized scared feelings.
- 70% thought the ending slow-motion door scene was a
2. What have you learnt from your audience feedback? From my audience feedback I have learnt that our trailer was successful at meeting the criteria necessary to become a horror teaser trailer. We conducted a questionnaire which we gave to 10 different aged people who then watched the trailer various times before filling in the questionnaire. This is the front page of one of our questionnaire: On the next few slides I will show each of the pie charts for the questions and explain what we found out.
3. This pie chart shows that all the people we asked said that they felt they knew who the main character was. This means we were successful at establishing the characters in our teaser trailer without giving too much away.
4. From this question I can see that the majority felt the titles were successful in creating the eerie atmosphere we were looking for but 20% felt that they could have been better. If we had more time we would have tried to make the titles better, I feel that to do this we should have made them a bit more interesting and not too plain.
5. This shows that we were successful in creating tension through the use of the repeated priest and cross scene, with 90% of the audience feeling like they were on the edge of the seats waiting to see what happened. The other 10% felt that it was not enough.
6. We found that our teaser trailer gave the right amount of story away, although 20% thought that it gave too much or too little, the majority vote felt that there was more they wanted to see and know that wasn’t shown in the trailer.
7. From our feedback we can see that the burning of the church scene didn’t go too well with the majority feeling like it was only alright. If we had more time to perfect this scene we would, it was a very difficult scene to do as we didn’t have any special effects or great filming equipment so we made do with what we had. We made a fire in the park and put an screen print of the shot in the trailer behind the fire, this meant that it was hard to get the whole picture in with the fire and caused a messy shot. We picked out the best shot but unfortunately there was a twig visible so that would also explain why not a lot of people found it very realistic.
8. We can see that the soundtrack we chose fits perfectly with the trailer to emphasise and provoke scared feelings within the audience as 100% said that it worked well and followed the theme.
9. The ending scene of the doors closing in slow motion was our closure scene that we wanted the audience to feel like they wanted to know what had happened. 70% said it was a good way to end this way and 30% said it was too sudden and not closure enough so with more time we would have slowed the pace a bit before the door scene to make this scene the powerful and important scene it is suppose to be.
