1. Kant’s view on
abortion
• Aborted babies are losing out on
opportunity of achieving summum bonum
• The act of killing ends life as well as any
future possibilities of contribution for that
person in their life they could have potentially
had.
• Can’t use a human life as a means to an end
2. Quality vs. Sanctity of life
• Kant believes in santity of life, as he considers
each human as individual and highest point of
intelligence
• Everyone has potential
• Human life is sacred and deserves respect
therefore abortion in Kant’s view is wrong as life
starts from conception.
3. General view of life
• Categorical imperative:
1) Universal law
2) Humans as ends not as means
3) A kingdom of Ends
• Universal law: All moral laws should be general laws and be
universalised
• You can’t use someone to achieve what you want
• The world should be with everyone fulfilling their moral duty
