Children in China attend school starting at age 6. The government limits families to one or two children to control population growth. During Chinese New Year, people dress up as lions and dragons to drive away evil spirits. Several animals are endangered in China, including giant pandas, golden-hair monkeys, and snow leopards. On weekends, families enjoy outdoor activities like visiting the Great Wall or boating in parks, which are popular among retired elders. Popular sports in China include ping-pong, basketball, volleyball, swimming and gymnastics. In the Olympics, China has won medals in swimming and shooting events. Olympic training begins at a young age through government camps that select children for sports even if they lack experience in that activity

6. Olympic Training
Olympic training is very important in China.
There is a training camp that is run by the
government.
Children are chosen even if they donโt know how
to play the game.

When he was 12 he was 6 feet and 5 inches tall the
scouts predicted that he was going to be 7 feet 5
inches so he can be good at basketball. Yao didnโt
like to play basketball until he was 18. When Yao
was 13 he went to the Shanghai Sharks.
