Smart Phones how do they affect us really? Presented by Ashton Blake
“Research has found that smart phones are affecting productivity, communication in the work place, social engagement, and have an effect in education”. Do you agree with this statement? Yes, I agree with this statement and shall elaborate why in my presentation:
view about smart phones: Revolutionised the way people communicate. Brought nations closer together. Sped up communication and information transfers. But they have been found to have a dangerous side effects...
Statistical information: Nielsen's figures USA only show RIM, Android and iPhone each at 27-28% of the OS share of the installed base of smart phone users for December 2010. However with recent purchasers, the Android OS is ahead at 43% then iPhone at 26% and RIM at 20%. Nielsen report that 31% of US mobile phone owners have a smart phone as of December 2010, and expect smart phones to become the majority by the end of 2011. eMarketer predicts that smart phone ownership will reach 43% of the US mobile population by 2015. The Coda Research Consultancy expect global smart phone sales of about 2.5 billion over 2010-2015. They imply that the use of mobile Internet via smart phones will increase 50% and more by the end of the period. According to Gartner's analysis of 2010 smart phone sales of using Android OS excelled almost 900% compared to 2009. According to figures for 2010, smart phones accounted for 297 million (19%) of the 1.6 billion mobile phones sold that year. That's 72.1% more smart phone sales than in 2009. Gartner expect that during 2012 over 500 million smart phones will sell. Mobile entertainment company Mxyer often track mobile device and OS use. Their review showed Android devices made up for 40% of visits to their mobile site in Dec 2010. Other well visited operating systems were RIM at 38%, Windows Mobile at 12% and Apple only 5% of visits. ComScore statistics for 2010 in USA, gives RIM the highest share of the smart phone possession market, at 31.6%, followed by Google Android at 28.7%, then Apple at 25%.
The effects of smart phones: ,[object Object]
According to statistics in June 2009, there were more than 4.3 billion users worldwide.
Mobile phones use electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range, which is believed to be harmful to human health.
Exposure to phones and harmful biological effects in humans are a huge contributing relationship.
Some of the effects caused are: Thermal Non-thermal Blood-brain barrier Cancer Cognitive Electromagnetic hypersensitivity Geno toxic Sleep and EEG
General research findings: The majority of people today use a smart phone. Even children as young as 12 and13 have phones, good ones too. Smart phones have been found to have negative effects on the brain and body. It is also apparent that as amazing as smart phones can be, research has shown that these phones make people very unsocial and distant from the real world.

  • 12. Impact on society: The Good: Phones have brought the world much closer together. With all the applications available such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Mxit and many more. People can communicate with others from all over the world within a few seconds. The Bad: Communication between people has suffered tremendously! People are less social when face to face. Depletes vocabulary, making use slang, and many abbreviations. People forget what is going on around them.
  • 13. Conclusion: I agree with the statement as smart phones are having Without this new technology we would suffer tremendously.. Been found to cause a variety of problem mentally and physically. We are addicted..Will only get worse in the future to come. We need to encourage a phone free zone...To help preserve our planet and creative minds. We need to get back to reality! Encourage a phone addiction free zone!
