2. There are two kinds of computer graphics – raster
(composed of pixels) and vector (composed of paths).
Raster images are more commonly called bitmap images.
A bitmap image uses a grid of individual pixels where each
pixel can be a different color or shade.
Bitmaps are composed of pixels.
Vector graphics use mathematical relationships between
points and the paths connecting them to describe an
image.
Vector graphics are composed of paths.
Kinds of digital graphics
7. Raster graphics has origins in monitor or television
technology, with images constructed much like the
pictures on a television or a monitor screen.
What is raster graphic?. -1
10. A raster graphic is made up of a collection of tiny,
uniformly sized pixels, which are arranged in a two-
dimensional grid made up of columns and rows.
Each pixel contains one or more bits of information,
depending on the degree of detail in the image.

12. Pixels, a word that is a shortened version of “picture
elements,” are bits of data mapped to a color and
arranged in rows and columns within a digital
document.
Each pixel contains one or more bits of information
depending on the degree of detail in the image.
What is The pixel?.
22. The Resolution (in public definition) is the number of
pixels (individual points of color) contained on a
display monitor, expressed in terms of the number
of pixels on the horizontal axis and the number on
the vertical axis. The sharpness of the image on a
display depends on the resolution and the size of
the monitor.
What is The Resolution?. -1
26. Raster images are resolution dependent.
Image Resolution is the fineness of detail in a raster
image (Bitmap Image) and is measured in pixels
per inch (ppi).
The more pixels per inch, the greater the resolution.
Generally, an image with a higher resolution
produces a better printed image quality and vice
versa.

Value and the image quality
High resolution Low resolution
32. The file size of an image is the digital size of the image file,
measured in kilobytes (K), megabytes (MB), or gigabytes
(GB).
File size is proportional to the pixel dimensions of the image.
Images with more pixels may produce more detail at a given
printed size, but they require more disk space to store and
may be slower to edit and print.
Image resolution thus becomes a compromise between
image quality (capturing all the data you need) and file size.

and the resolution value
33. Changing the image Size by using adobe Photoshop
and this process is called “Resampling”
35. Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard digital
imaging tool for print.
Photoshop is a better program for manipulating
images, retouching, and adding effects.
It is also great for designing single page elements
with minimal type for either print or the Web.
We can use adobe Photoshop to perform many
various processes to produce a raster graphics or
Bitmap graphics.
Raster graphic editing by
adobe Photoshop
36. 1. Making retouches for the images.
2. Design some kinds of printing products such as
posters, comic stories, .. Etc.
3. Coloring for mono color images or line art images.
4. Changing the colors and making a color
corrections for photos.

55. Corel Painter is an image editing program like adobe
Photoshop but it an specialist program in drawing and
painting.
Corel Painter is a raster-based digital art application
created to simulate as accurately as possible the
appearance and behavior of traditional media
associated with drawing, painting, and printmaking.
It is intended to be used in real-time by professional
digital artists as a functional creative tool.

56. The application offers a wide range of traditional artists›
materials and tools.
With the aid of a graphics tablet or computer mouse,
the user is able to reproduce the effect of physical
painting and drawing media such as watercolor, oil,
chalk, charcoal and color pencil.
Painter and Photoshop have many similarities such as
layered editing.
The two products have developed as contemporaries,
introducing innovations that are now considered
standard in bitmap image editing software.
