The document describes an automated beverage dispensing system called the Automatic Volume Detection and Fluid Dispensing System (AVD&FDS) designed by engineering students. The system uses a camera to capture images of drinking containers, calculates the volume, and dispenses the appropriate amount of fluid in a hands-free process. While the overall goal remained the same, the design went through several iterations to address challenges with edge detection, lighting, and integration with the fluid dispensing mechanism. The final prototype uses a webcam, PC with image processing software, data acquisition device, LED lighting, valve, water reservoir, and emergency switch to quickly and accurately dispense fluids into containers of varying sizes.
