ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
Maharashtra University of Medical Sciences, Hon. Doctorates Of the University on the
stage & in the audience, respected Secretary of Maharashtra government, Teachers
& Members of Medical Profession, Invited Guests, Ladies & Gentlemen, on this occasion,
I wish to thank all the Authorities of the University for bestowing on me this very unique
“Marathon Teacher Award”, which I can assure you after a very thorough study of the
“Internet & Literature” has never been bestowed on any Teacher anywhere in the World
so far. Our lives in a way is like Marathon Runners. I started teaching medical students in
1956. You may not believe but I had to actually run after my students to catch them &
teach them. As time passed, I gradually observed that my students were running after me
to request me to teach them but all along I have been running continuously. To remain as
a teacher you have to be a lifetime learner. I learned from many sources but maximum
from my distinguished Teachers & my Students who have spread all over the
World. Duties of the teacher does not end merely by teaching, training of Medicine but he
has to advise them the importance of their behavior with and creation of confidence in
their patients and provide the students life time guidance, support & most important
inspiration. Sirs, I accept this most distinguished award from M.U. H. S. most humbly and
for which I shall ever remain grateful to the University and I wish to dedicate this award
to all my Almamaters & particularly G. S. Medical College and K.E.M. Hospital &
Overseas Medical Universities, to all my Teachers, all my Students spread over the
World, many of whom are now Teachers & Leaders in Medicine, to all my Colleagues in
all Medical Specialties, to my Colleagues in Nursing Profession , Medical Therapies,
Medical Technology, Medical Social Service, to all my Patients who gave their lives in my
hands, to all my Well Wishers and to all Members of my Family particularly my Parents,
Wife, Son, Daughter & their Families without whose support I could not have achieved
anything in my life. Many thanks to all of you for sparing your valuable time for this lovely
function & for expressing your appreciation for all of us.
