COMPREHENSION

Stages of Reading
1. MATCHING TESTS
Word matching
Sentence matching
Pictures and sentence matching
Word matching
The readers are just wanted to underline the
word same with the given one.
*Now bow/not/how/now
Sentence Matching
The testees are wanted to recognise sentences which
consists of the same words in the same order.
They should catch it as quickly as possible.
1. Tom is not going to your school
a. Tom is not going to your pool
b. Tom is going to your school
c. Tom is not coming to your school
d. Tom is not going to your school
Pictures and sentence matching
The testees look at the pictures and concentrate
on word and sentence comprehension
For intermediate and advanced stages of Reading:
Matching Tests
1. Visuals can be used to test the comprehension
of definitions of words.
The test takers are wanted to match the definition of words
with the given picture.
2. In this type, the advanced level testees are
required to read the text to be able to
comprend the words. After reading the text,
they are required to write a word to the
appropriate blank, right opposite the
definition. The definitions are for words used
in the passage.
3. The testees are required to match appropriate
words or information in the text with the correct
parts of diagram.
4. The testees are required to match of a
paraphrase of phrases with the original words in
the text.
Type 1.
The testees are tested by means of a series of
general truth.
The sun rises in the west T F
England is as large as Australia T F
2. TRUE / FALSE READING TESTS
Type 2.
The testees decide whether it is T or F according
to a text.
3. Multiple-choice Items: Short Texts
Type 1.
The testees choose the right answer.
The eyes are wonderful teachers- even musicians, who deal with
sound, learn as much by(doing, playing, practising) as by listening
Type 2.
The testees are required to identify the correct
paraphrase.
1. John is not as tall as Sally but he is a little taller tahn Rick
a. Sally is taller than John and Rick
b. John is not as tall as Rick
Type 3.
There is given a short reading extract and the
testees try to answer the multiple choice question
according to the text.
The lenght of the reading extract recommended might vary from
50 to 100 words at the elementary level,
200 to 300 words at the intermediate level,
400 to 600 words at the advanced level.
3. Multiple-choice Items: Longer Texts
4. Completion Items
5. Rearregement Items
6. Cloze Procedure
7. Open-ended and miscalleneous items
8. Cursory Reading
