The world today is continuing to evolve on a daily basis, and that is one thing we can count on it
doing. It started evolving from the beginning and will continue to the end of time. The biggest
part of evolution is the way our culture has changed over thousands of years. Now, my description of
how the world is going to look in 100 years is probably the same as most people my age. Everything
will be electronic.
The word "Hellenism" refers to the spread of Greek culture after the conquest of Alexander the
Great in the 4th century. If you look around not only America, but most countries, you will see that
we are made up of so many different cultures. In fact, most of what we would consider part of the
American culture, comes from another culture. We have become a "diverse community."

In my opinion, Internet killed Television. Ever since 2009 so many things on the Internet have
changed. For instance, YouTube has evolved greatly. Before 2009 it was mainly used for
uploading videos once or twice for laughs. But now being on YouTube has become a full time job
for some. Which adults don't understand how uploading videos can be a job. In a way, you could
say, YouTuber's are becoming "celebrities". In fact some of our stars today were found on
YouTube. One in particular that almost everyone knows of now is Justin Bieber. YouTube could
also be known as something that is Hellenistic because it is something that has spread across the
world. As well as so many of the other social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn,
Instagram, etc. In fact, Facebook is often used to keep in touch with people from other countries. I

1. How can an understanding of the complexities of culture help us make sense of the day–to–day
world which we live? Give an example from your life to illustrate your answer.
If we understand the complexities of the cultures around us, we can better relate to the people
engaged in the other cultures. It also allows us to better understand why others are acting the way
they are. At the hospital I work at, we are taught about how others use the word "yes." For instance, I
might ask if they understand the paperwork they are signing and they will respond with "yes."

An example of a value in the USA would baseball. In our culture, baseball is a symbol of family
time and fun. In fact, it is sometimes known as "Americas favorite pastime."
An example of a norm would be that in the South, we will sometimes talk to others in line around
us at places like the grocery store. However, in the North people keep to themselves more. People
do not want to talk about the weather while standing in line to buy groceries.
A tradition found in American culture that is not found in other cultures is being engaged before you
get married. While in America an engagement is a sign of an impending marriage, in other cultures,
such as that of South Korea, the sign of an impending marriage is when the significant others are
introduced to the family.
3. Anthropologists feel that holism is one of the key aspects of culture because it links together
lots of things that people in other disciplines do not routinely think about. Use an example of an
object in daily life to show how it is holistically linked to other aspects of American life. (Consider,

America has been known to be a successful and free country. Through popular music, art, film and
literature, we can discern that American identity is defined as being based on freedoms within the
country, helping others and treating everyone as equals. One means of experiencing American
culture is, the movie, The Blind Side, shows what it means to be an American by telling a story of
helping others and treating everyone as equals. The movie is about a seventeen year old
African–American boy, named Michael Ohr, who is homeless and has drifted in and out of the

It also represents treating everyone as one. The raising of the American flag represents the men of
the war standing for everyone who is part of the United States. An example of a piece of rhetoric
that can show Americanism is the "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr. In this
speech, King expresses that all blacks should be treated just as equal as whites. King said, "I have
a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the
rough places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall
see it together." In his speech he is saying that every person will be on the same level of rank, with
no more discrimination. Every rule of discrimination or segregation will be eliminated and all races
will be mixed together. Martin Luther King Jr's speech symbolizes Americanism by expressing
equality among races. In society today, our country has turned out to fit these standards in that we no
longer have segregation and we have laws against racism. Another speech that takes the form of a
narrative is the Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln. "Four score and seven years ago our fathers
brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition
