PART A: INTRODUCTION
1. Rationale
Today export activities become extremely important in commercial
activities for any country in the world. Through export activities, countries
can exploit their advantages in labor division, create an important source
of foreign currency for the country, change economic structure and
especially create jobs for workers.
For Vietnam, export activity has a strategic role development of the
country economic, creating a solid premise to successfully achieve the
goal of industrialization and modernization of the country. With
accelerated exports and opening up the economy, Vietnam will create
good conditions to successfully implement the socio-economic
development goals and stabilize the people's life.
From the characteristics of an agricultural country with a population
mainly engaged in agricultural production activities, Vietnam has
identified main products type for export are agricultural products. This
will help to bring many foreign currencies for the economic development
of the country. Therefore, the Government has created favorable
conditions to encourage the participation of companies in the field of
exporting agricultural products. In the field of agricultural exports, our
country has achieved successes, but besides these successes, there are still
certain limitations. Moreover, I was lucky to took the internship period in
an agriculture products export company.
Because all of the above reasons, I chose the topic of "Translation in
Economic" to partly contribute to the improvement of our country's export
efficiency to countries around the world.

2.2. About the company
Thai Gia Son Limited Company was established on April 9, 2007.
The main business activities of the company are exporting agricultural
products such as coffee, pepper, cashew, rice ... to the US, UAE, India,
Germany, Turkey, Singapore and South Korea markets.
Thai Son Company takes the initiative in negotiating, signing and
implementing international trade contracts, economic contracts and
associated joint venture cooperation agreements with domestic and foreign
customers within the scope of the company's activities.
In addition, the company also organizes to expand many other
business areas such as production, processing, joint venture, cooperation,
investment cooperation with domestic and foreign economic organizations
to produce quality goods for export. Currently, the company has become a
reliable partner for customers in over 10 countries around the world and the
company's economic cooperation has been increasingly developed and
expanded as the agriculture products export activities of the country are
increasingly expanded as well.

CHAPTER 1: DEFINITION
 Concepts of Agriculture products for exports
Agricultural products are a rich and diversified commodity such as
rice, vegetables, cashew, coffee, rubber, pepper, coconut rice ... to meet the
increasing demands of consumers. The export market of agricultural
products is a healthy but quite fierce competition market among enterprises
from many countries in the world. The demand for agricultural products is
huge in the present conditions when the world population is growing
rapidly, so the export business needs a long-term and sustainable strategy to
improve the quality of food safety and hygiene products to meet the needs of
the export market.
The most prominent characteristic of agricultural products is those
products are produced by agricultural industry, so it is influenced by
weather, climate, natural conditions, soil ... The production and harvest of
agricultural products are seasonal, so Agricultural products are seasonal
products. Agricultural products will be cheap, in large quantities and of high
quality at the time of harvest. Enterprises need to grasp this feature to create
a stable source of export goods, abundant in quantity with low cost, low
price because at the off-season period, agricultural products are often scarce,
if any, the quality is not high and the price is expensive.

A promising outlook is expected for
Viet Nam’s rice exports in 2023
thanks to the positive impacts of the
new-generation free trade agreements
(FTAs) as well as the change in the
supply and demand of the world
market.
At a recent meeting to discuss the
situation of rice exports in 2023, the
Import-Export Department under the
Ministry of Industry and Trade
(MOIT) reported notable
achievements in Viet Nam’s rice
exports last year.

6.37 million tons of rice in 2019, a
year-on-year increase of 4.2%. This
was considered a success in the
context of fierce competition and
redundant rice supplies. (Even
Thailand, a large rice exporter, saw a
32% decline in its export volume
compared to the previous year).
The Philippines was the largest
importer of Vietnamese rice with a
value of $885 million, a year-on-year
rise of 92.58%.
Markets with strong growth in rice
export value included Senegal (98%),
the Ivory Coast (78.6%), Chinese
Taipei (3%), Hong Kong, China
(28.3%) and Tanzania (26.6%).
Viet Nam’s rice has been exported to
150 countries and territories around
the world.
For a long time, rice has been a
strategic crop in Viet Nam’s food
security. Over the past decades, the
Government has been striving to

A promising outlook for rice exports
in 2023
Currently, Viet Nam is seizing a
number of advantages thanks to the
impacts of the new-generation FTAs
signed with the Republic of Korea
(RoK) and member countries of the
Comprehensive and Progressive
Agreement for Trans-Pacific
Partnership (CPTPP).
Specifically, Viet Nam will be
granted an export quota of 55,000
tons of rice to the RoK in 2023, while
the CPTPP market, including
Mexico, also promises many positive
prospects.
In particular, the European Union-
Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement has
recently been ratified by the
European Parliament. With the
EVFTA likely to come into force this

over two million tons of rice to the
Philippines in 2023.
In addition, the African market and
Malaysia will import one million tons
and 500,000 tons of rice from Viet
Nam annually.
In 2019, Viet Nam’s rice industry
achieved many impressive results,
earning US$2.7 billion from the
exports of more than 6.3 million tons
of rice. An important highlight is that
the country’s ST25 rice was voted as
the best rice in the world.
The ST25 rice fever has breathed a
new breeze into the rice market, both
at home and abroad.
Undoubtedly, the ongoing Covid-19
epidemic will affect Viet Nam’s rice

1.2 Analysis
1.2.1 Contextual analysis
The text is about Vietnam’s rice export situations in 2019 and the
prospects of this field in 2023. It aims to show the positive signal on
Vietnam’s rice export to countries all over the world.
The results on rice export 2019 was shown in the article such as total
exports of rice in 2019 was 6.37 million tons, 4.2 increased compared to the
same period of 2018. Some biggest importers of Vietnam’s rice such as
Philippines, EU, Senegal (98%), the Ivory Coast, Taipei, Hong Kong,
China, etc.
The article also provides favorable economic and political conditions
for the rice export industry likes free trade agreements, the Prime Minister
has also approved a strategy on the development of Viet Nam’s rice export

1.2.2 Grammatical Cohesion
* Reference

In this sentence, it refers to Thailand. Thailand was mention earlier,
therefore this is the anaphoric reference type.
Example 2: “Specifically, the country exported 6.37 million tons of rice in
2019, a year-on-year increase of 4.2%. This was considered a success in the
context of fierce competition and redundant rice supplies.”
In this sentence, the country refers to Vietnam. Anaphoric reference often
makes use of the definite article the, because one of the functions of the
definite article is to indicate that something has already been mentioned.
Example 3: The Prime Minister has also approved a strategy on the
development of Viet Nam’s rice export markets in the 2017-2023 period,
with an orientation toward 2030.
In this sentence, the article the is mostly used as an exophoric reference to

refer to the outside world shared between the writer and the reader. This is

(VBF) has held, Minister of Planning
and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung
emphasized the role of and
contributions by FDI companies to
Viet Nam’s development, especially
their linkages with and support for
domestic businesses.
Minister Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed
that in the coming period, Viet Nam
will take the initiative in attracting
foreign investment in a selective
manner, focusing on quality,
effectiveness, technology and
environmental protection.
Removing barriers
Reiterating Government’s efforts to
improve the business environment
and attract investment, Deputy Prime
Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said in the
time ahead, the Government will
focus on solving some issues,
including prioritizing investment in
synchronous infrastructure
development and helping to create
intelligent, effective connections, thus

This article contains illustrations by data and also quoted a lot speech of
the Minister or Deputy Prime Minister to provide reasons behind the title
topic. Also, conditional sentences are used to make the text become more
persuasive.
Lexical stylistic devices were used in the text: sysnonym, personalization
and simile. The word FDI companies/businesses were repeated to emphasize
the topic. There is no “I” or “we” in the article to ensure objective
characteristic of an explaination type journal.
2. Difficulties and conviniences met in translation
Some very long sentences like: “Reiterating Government’s efforts to
improve the business environment and attract investment, Deputy Prime
Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said in the time ahead, the Government will focus
on solving some issues, including prioritizing investment in synchronous
infrastructure development and helping to create intelligent, effective
connections, thus reducing costs and enhancing the efficiency and
competitiveness for businesses, investors and the economy.” – made it is
quite difficult for translator. I need to be very careful in translating such a
long sentence like this and make sure transferring correct meaning of the
author.
There is economic term like “global value chains” which need to double

check and research to confirm the maining and how to translate it to
Vietnamese correctly.
III. Text 3: Xuất khẩu nông, lâm, thủy sản đạt trên 5 tỷ USD
1. Comments:
The text reported the export turnover results in the first two months of
2023 with very specific data in numbers. The actical provided information
for readers with analyzed and synthetic data which helps readers easy to
understand. Besides, the text follows narrative form with mentioned the
sequences of Conoravius epidemic to the import/export activities. All
significant sequences were mentioned both in Vietnam and other countries.
References, conjunctions were used.
There were many specific name of fair, exhibition, forum such as: Triển
lãm chè quốc tế Hàng Châu, Chiết Giang – Trung Quốc và Diễn đàn nông
nghiệp (trái cây, gạo) tại Quảng Đông - Trung Quốc; Diễn đàn xúc tiến,
quảng bá nông sản nhân dịp Hội chợ Thực phẩm và đồ uống Foodex Nhật
Bản 2023 diễn ra từ ngày 9 -13/3. All those name need to research and
double check for their international name.
The Vietnamese structures are very different compared to English.
Too many long sentences with many subjects are hidden so the translator
need to focus more.
Example:
“Bên cạnh đó, Bộ chủ trì, phối hợp với các bộ, ngành tích cực đàm phán mở
cửa thị trường xuất khẩu, giữ ổn định các thị trường truyền thống, tìm kiếm
và mở rộng các thị trường tiềm năng, hướng đến đa dạng hóa thị trường
xuất khẩu; đáp ứng các tiêu chuẩn cao về xuất xứ hàng hóa, chỉ dẫn địa lý;

nghiên cứu, đề xuất các giải pháp để tiếp cận các hệ thống bán lẻ, chuỗi
siêu thị tại nước ngoài.”
“Besides, the Ministry chaired and coordinated with other ministries and
sectors to actively negotiate to open export markets, stabilize traditional
markets, seek and expand potential markets, aiming to diversify export
market; meet high standards about origin of goods, geographical indications;
research, propose solutions to access retail systems, supermarket chains in
foreign countries.”
It’s difficult to translate such a long sentence in target text and make sure
that it’s natural in meaning and grammatical point.
IV. Text 4: Tôm Việt 'nằm chờ' Trung Quốc
1. Comments:
The text aims to report an issue due to an epidemic which is occurring all
over the world and especially in China. The report is about the Vietnamese
shrimp which need to export to China but now is stuck. The writer focuses
on describing the difficulties that businesses in Vietnam met during this
event.
There are some words which need to focus more in translating: “Tết”;
“chốt hợp đồng”, “thông quan”; “đóng và bốc dỡ hàng hóa”. All those word
due to cultural and industry specificed reason, need to choose correct words
or terms to translate. Personalizim was used in “Tôm việt nằm chờ”. In this
sentence, the translator was research and thinking of how to translate it,
either translate word by word or replace it by other word in Vietnamese.

CHAPTER 4: CONCLUSION
Translation is the transmission of text from one language to another. The
purpose of translation is to transform and convey the meaning of a text and
message taking into account the cultural and regional differences between
languages.
Translation must take into account constraints including the context,
grammatical rules of two languages, their written conventions and idioms. A
common misconception is that a simple correspondence between two
languages and translation is a simple mechanical process. An unqualified
translation if the translation of each word does not take into account context,
grammar, conventions and idioms.
The internship has ended successfully and I was evaluated by the
Manager of Thai Gia Son Limited Company. By this internship period, I got
many experiences on translating documents and especially in export fields.
I would like to thank Ha Noi Open University has been organizing
Internship period so that all students have chance to practice and gain
helpful experiences. I am really appreciating the Thai Gia Son Limited
Company’s staffs for their enthusiastic helps and were very open in teaching
me. I think myself need to improve more and more in order to successful in
my future career.
