Did you know that 1 in 150 children is
diagnosed with autism? 67 children are
diagnosed per day with autism, meaning a new
case is diagnosed every 20 minutes.
Slide 1
Slide 2 Did you know that more children will be
diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS,
diabetes, and cancer combined?
Slide 3 Did you know autism is the fastest growing
serious developmental disability in the U.S.?
2. Autism receives less than 5% funding for
research versus other less prevalent childhood
diseases. There is no medical detection or cure
for these things.
Slide 4
Slide 5 These facts along with the influences of those I
have met over my few 20-years here on earth
has contributed largely to my aspirations to
become a Special Education teacher and to
make a difference in the community and in the
lives of children with autism.
Slide 6 When my youth pastor and his wife, Jon and
Becky, moved to my hometown, I had no idea
the impact they would have on my life.
They introduced me not only to their two
amazing and adorable children with autism,
Hannah and Jacob, they also introduced me to
a way of living for God and serving others.
Slide 7
Slide 8 One of the most influential lessons Jon and
Becky taught me was how to live my life for
3. others. To serve to the best of my abilities
because I can, and because I want to.
Slide 9 Helping others is just one of the many ways
that I can use my God-given abilities to their
full purpose, while providing others with
support and service.
Slide 10 Hannah and Jacob, their children, have taught
me even more. They have shown me that their
autism does not affect them as people.
Slide 11 They are both just as loving, respectful, happy,
carefree, and intelligent as any other quote un-
quote normal child. The only thing they have
difficulty with is relating socially to others.
4. They have taught me that not everything is as
it seems on the outside. People do not always
wear their feelings on their sleeves, they do
not always respond they way you want them
too.
Slide 12
Slide 13 Hannah and Jacob have taught me to see
beyond the façade and try to understand the
root of someone’s words, emotions, and
actions.
Slide 14 Jon, Becky, Hannah and Jacob have inspired
me to go into special education.
Slide 15 They inspire me to help others understand
their difficulties, to understand what they go
through and to understand how they view the
world.
5. Slide 16 I do not want to see one more child with
autism teased and discriminated against
because of a certain medical diagnosis.
Slide 17 I want to be a part of the change in special
education.
Slide 18 This is for Hannah and Jacob. I owe you more
than your little hearts could ever imagine.
