1. An Introduction into understanding
By Rev. Kimberly Bateau

2. August 15, 1865- March 9, 1926
Dr. Mikao Usui is considered the founder of Reiki
3. The story is unclear, but from various sources it
has been revealed the Dr. Usui received the gift
of Reiki after a 21 day fast at Mt. Kurama near
Kyoto.
From this discovery, he began to teach and
share Reiki with many people.
He founded the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai and
initiated students so that they may become
Reiki Masters.
4. As taught by Dr. Mikao Usui:
At least for today, do not be angry.
Do not worry.
Do your work with appreciation.
Work hard.
Be kind to others.
5. The Word Reiki (ray-key) can be explained as
Universal Energy.
Rei= Spiritually guided or wisdom from Divine
Ki= Life force energy.
Reiki is holistic.
It is a healing art (using meditation and
intention) that reduces stress.
Through Reiki our inner healing light expands,
balancing our mind, body and soul.
6. Reiki is considered “hands on healing” in
technique; however clothes are not removed,
and there is no touching of private areas.
Within each person there lies an inner energy
system, called Chakras.
If those energy systems are blocked from
stress, fear, worry, doubt, anger, anxiety, etc.
it manifests in ways that make us “ill”.
The American Institute of Stress
(www.stress.org) states that stress is the “#1
health problem in the US.”
7. Through the holistic technique of Reiki, a
person can reach a state of relaxation, thus
allowing the body to release stress.
When stress is released, a body can refocus
energy into a more positive direction.
Reiki promotes health, healing and positivity.
Reiki uses specific techniques in order to
transmit subtle energy to a person.
8. Reduction of stress
Accelerated healing process
Release of toxins in the body
Balance of Chakras
Realignment causes better chi (energy) flow through
the energy systems (chakras)
Flushes blockages of energy
Aid in healing relationships
Awaken spirituality
9. Release of blockage can aide in communication
with others, enhance creativity, elevate moods.
Assist with manifesting goals.
10. A Reiki Master has been attuned and trained
to:
Practice Reiki as a holistic healing technique
Attune others and teach them Reiki techniques
Be a conduit for the universal energy through
intent, prayer and specifically taught
technique.
11. Through prayer, intent and proper Reiki
technique.
A person may lay down on a massage table, sit
in a reclining chair or be far away (long
distance)
The Reiki Master will gently send energy to the
energy sytems in the recipient’s body using
special symbols, and placing of hands (again,
hands are not placed on personal areas of the
body, they hover over the body)
12. Reiki sessions are different for everyone.
Some feel relaxed, light, tingling, warmth,
coolness
Even if you don’t feel it, it doesn’t mean the
Reiki “isn’t working” the energy does what it
needs to do.
13. Reiki is not replacement for medical advice or
visits.
Reiki Masters are not doctors or psychiatrists
and cannot prescribe medications
Reiki is not sexual and will never violate
Reiki is not evil
Reiki is not a religion, it is a spiritual practice
14. Positive
Spiritual
Relaxing
For everyone, every age, every religion, every
walk of life
15. I hope this has helped you to learn a little more
about Reiki. Perhaps you will be less
apprehensive to try it out.
