Directions for 500Level Research Paper School of Security and Global Studies Preparing the next generation of security professionals through curriculum and teaching excellence. At this level, you are learning the core concepts of the discipline and you will produce a graduate level paper that presents a research “puzzle” relevant to the subject matter of this class. The paper will be 10-15 pages in length. The requirements for this project will mirror the requirements for all graduate papers. The paper will be typed in 12 pt. Times New Roman, Calibri, or other standard font, with margins of 1” all around. It will be double-spaced except where the format calls for single spacing, for example, block quotations and the list of complete citations. Citations will conform to the Turabian format whether you choose to use the Parenthetical/References style or the more traditional Foot- or end-notes/Bibliography style. To recap the Format of the Paper: • Title Page of the Paper. The title of your paper should be brief but should adequately inform the reader of your general topic and the specific focus of your research. Keywords relating to parameters, population, and other specifics are useful. ALWAYS use a Title Page for graduate work! Your title page will include the title, name, course name and number, and Professor’s Name. I. Introduction, Research Question, and Hypothesis (1-2 pages): This section shall provide an overview of the topic that you are writing about, a concise synopsis of the issues, and why the topic presents a “puzzle” that prompts your research questions, which you will include. This section can be preceded by an epigraph that creates interest in the topic. We encourage the use of epigraphs, but please follow the proper format for epigraphs!! II. Review of the Literature (3-5 pages): All research projects include a literature review to set out for the reader what knowledge exists on the subject under study and helps the researcher develop the research strategy to use in the study. A good literature review is a thoughtful study of what has been written, a summary of the arguments that exist (whether you agree with them or not), and are arranged thematically. The literature review is not an annotated bibliography and should be written in coherent narrative style. At the end of the summary, there should still be gaps in the literature that you intend to fill with your research. Directions for 500Level Research Paper School of Security and Global Studies Preparing the next generation of security professionals through curriculum and teaching excellence. III. Methodology and Research Strategy (1-2 pages): This section provides the reader with a description of your strategy to conduct research for this paper. It identifies your variables and how you operationalized your research approach. It describes the data you found and how you analyzed it for .

FASB Ongoing Project "The mission of the Financial Accounting Standards Board is to establish and improve standards of financial accounting reporting for the guidance and education of the public, including issuers, auditors, and users of financial information." (http://www.fasb.org) You MUST base your FASB research on CPA and companies codification standard. You must use only current information in your paper. For example, do not use any resources that is older than 2 years from now; meaning, all research resources must be between 2012 and 2014. You MUST not use any other older resource that will be considered out dated. No plagiarism must be found in your writing, this paper will be examined whether there is a plagiarism. If any plagiarism is found, you will receive ZERO! Project Objective Describe the history, current status, and adoption implications of a Financial Accounting Standards Board on CPA and companies codification standard. Requirements The FASB has several ongoing projects that involve the review of standards and which may result in updates and/or revisions of financial accounting standards. You should select an ongoing FASB project after visiting the Technical Plan and Project Updates sections of the FASB Web site. In a five- to seven-page paper, you should describe the project, its history (briefly), and the project's status. The final section of your paper should describe the implications of the project's adoption. For example, a paper might discuss a project that would result in accelerating the recognition of certain expenses and require additional disclosures. Specifically: · Familiarize yourself with the project, including information on the history and background of the project and its status. · Using resources at www.fasb.org (including free access to U.S. GAAP codification if you register at the Web site as explained), identify the relevant GAAP and current standards involved. Discuss the proposed change (i.e., what will be different?) and the reasons for the change. · Using at least three different databases in the UMUC library, find at least five sources of information on this FASB project. As you conduct research, identify an actual case that may have provided the impetus for this proposed change, or that would have been influenced by the proposed change. At least two sources should be from scholarly or professional journals. Maintain a research log to document your research process. You will find a research log template (sample research tracker) posted in Course Content. · Prepare an annotated bibliography. See Course Content for more information and a sample annotated bibliography. · Identify stakeholders and the impact of the proposed change on each of the stakeholders (comment letters may provide good insight). Deliverables Write a five- to seven-page paper (APA format, single spaced, standard paper size, one-inch margins, and 12-pointfont) presenting the results of your work. Submit your 1.) Paper. 2.) This is where speaker notes are particularly useful. Some presenters have the capability of memorizing the details and being cued by the outline in the presentation, or even speaking off the cuff. However, for the purposes of this project, you will document your speaker notes to accompany the presentation slides you will develop in Week 8. This step will help you consider the outline of your presentation and the content you will want to include on each slide. Prompt: Your presentation will have accompanying speaker notes to fill in the details you would include in the presentation, but not necessarily include in the presentations slides. Your speaker notes can either be bulleted points for each step of your presentation or more developed paragraphs to help you deliver the presentation. This part is up to you; either way, these notes should contain substantial details to address each of the required parts of your presentation. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: I. Provide a brief overview of your artifacts, theme, and thesis statement. How are they situated within the domain of the humanities? II. Explain how the theme, as it is expressed in the cultural artifacts, and thesis statement impact the audience. In other words, how is the theme relevant to members of the audience? Why should the audience care about your thesis statement? Support your response with specific examples from your exploration document. III. Describe the evidence from subjective and objective cultural analyses that you have to support your conclusions about the impact of the theme and cultural artifacts on you personally and on your audience. Support your response with specific examples from your exploration document. IV. Explain why the theme and cultural artifacts are important to you personally. In other wo ...

You might assume that when it comes to sources for your research paper, the more you have, the better your paper will be. But quality is more important than quantity. Being able to evaluate the relevance of information will help you stay focused on your goals by eliminating unnecessary information. How does this relate to your success in this course? Mastering this learning outcome will help you identify and avoid tangential or nonessential information that could distract you from the central focus on your research. When evaluating sources, including sources found on the Internet, in the library, or in print, be sure to consider whether the content meets your needs. This is called determining an information source’s relevance. This goes beyond simply asking if the source relates to your topic. Rather, how well does it help answer your question or enhance your understanding? Keep in mind that a resource may not be an exact match or completely answer your question, but it could describe a certain angle of your topic that you may want to explore further. Therefore, it could still have value for you. Deciding whether something is relevant to your research is a bit of a judgment call, but the following strategies can help. Revisit the Scope of Research As you consider sources, it’s important to keep the scope of your research in mind. As we explored in Chapter 1, your research question should be narrowed according to the purpose of the research as well as the audience. A brief PowerPoint presentation intended to introduce a topic to your classmates, for instance, will require definitions and other fundamental types of information, whereas a 20-page research essay for your instructor will require deeper evidence and analyses. Notice how the intended audience dictates the focus and depth of the information. Content is generally created for different groups, such as practitioners, researchers, the general 11/3/21, 2:11 PM Print https://content.uagc.edu/print/Winckelman.6528.21.1?sections=ch04sec4.3,ch04sec4.4&content=all&clientToken=8318aacc-4937-6150-1ad7-aa5ac606aea7&np=ch… 2/11 public, or maybe special-interest groups within the general public, such as those who belong to certain political parties, religions, lifestyles, and so on. In thinking about relevance, Irwin reconsiders the scope of his research once more. He has chosen to focus on how social networks have impacted business, and marketing in particular. His digital literacy teacher and potentially his classmates are his audience, so he needs information that is professional but not overly technical. One w ...

HIS 100 Project 3 Multimedia Presentation Guidelines and Rubric Overview “If you want to understand today, you have to search yesterday.” —Pearl Buck Your final longer-term project in this course is to complete a multimedia presentation. The work you did on the Topic Exploration Worksheet in Module Two and the historical context and introduction in Module Six will directly support your work on this project. One of the prime benefits of studying history is that it allows us to learn about who we are and where we came from. The people and events of the past can often shed light on the conditions and social norms of the present. Having historical awareness can inform various aspects of your life as well as future aspirations. Learning from past failures and successes can shape ideals and values for years to come. This final longer-term project is designed to help you understand the fundamental processes and value of studying history. In the first project, you completed the Topic Exploration Worksheet on one of the topics or themes from the library guide. You investigated the types of research you might need to do to learn more about the topic and developed research questions. In Project 2, you used this worksheet to complete a research plan and introduction. You selected one of your research questions and did some secondary-source research, speculated on primary source needs, and used the information to write the introduction and thesis statement for a possible research paper. In this third project, you will create a multimedia presentation that explores both major developments in historical inquiry and the value of examining history. This assessment addresses the following course outcomes: Investigate major developments in the progression of historical inquiry for informing critical questions related to historical narrative Articulate the value of examining historical events for their impact on contemporary issues 1 Prompt Now that you have done some research with primary and secondary sources (using sources from the library guide for your chosen topic) and written an introduction for a possible history paper, you will turn your attention to thinking about the creation and value of historical inquiry. You will use the research you have done throughout this course, as well as course materials, to inform your thoughts. To present your opinions and observations, you will create a multimedia presentation (using a presentation tool such as PowerPoint or Prezi) that addresses the following critical elements. While these questions may seem “big,” remember that you are addressing them in a presentation, not a paper, and can use bullet points, visuals, or other methods. These critical elements will be evaluated from the information you provide in your multimedia presentation. Note: If using Prezi, be sure to include a Word document with notes. If using PowerPoint, be sure to use the speaker ...

While single melodic lines are simpler and more straightforward, they still allow for creativity and emotional expression. Meanwhile, the simultaneous occurrence of multiple melodic lines can create a more intricate and complex musical structure that challenges the listener's ear and engages their attention.
