2. ABSTRACT This presentation is about global warming, the causes and the environmental consequences that scientists predict for the future of the planet if this phenomenon keeps on affecting the environment at the same rate it has been affected specially since the industrial revolution. There are many scientists that are working on solutions against global warming, but in this presentation we will also examine the consequences that may come if actions are or not taken against global warming.
3. OUTLINE 1. What is Global Warming? 2. Causes of global warming 2.1. Greenhouse effect: 4.Activities disturbing the Greenhouse effect: 5. Effects of global warming: 6. Consequences of taking or not taking action against global warming
4. 1. What is global warming? Global warming refers to a group of alterations in the earth’s temperature which can affect the climatic parameters.
5.
6. 4. Activities disturbing the greenhouse effect Burning fossil fuels Deforestation A growing world population
7. 4.1 Sources of emissions 65% from burning fuel to create energy (excluding transport) 21% from transport 9% from agriculture – for example, nitrous oxide from chemical fertilizers or methane given off by animals and manure. 5% from industry – for example, manufacturing goods
8. 5. Effects of global warming Changing sea levels and rising of temperatures. Extreme weather like floods, droughts and tropical storms. Extinction of some species Impact in economy Lack of food and water Diseases Lost of rainforests
9. 6. Consequences of taking or not taking action against global warming Taking action GLOBAL WARMING “NO” “YES” COST $$$ + GLOBAL DEPRESION FALSE CATASTROPHES COST $$$ TRUE Economic Political Social Environmental Health By Greg Craven
