Talking Points: As you know, our company’s gone through an important evolution: We’ve tried to build our company to not just create private wealth, but to create a positive impact on the world through the power of our business. And part of that evolution has measuring what matters most to us: How we treat our employees, how we contribute to our community, and how we address our environmental challenges. And we’ve used the B Impact Assessment as one of our core tools to measure that.
Talking Points: This Assessment is an online tool. Above all else, it is free, useful and confidential.
Talking Points: The Assessment is a series of questions and metrics about the company’s impact on workers community and environment. And it will take about 90 mins to complete with your best estimates. It looks something like this: It usually is a pretty eye opening experience – it will ask you about things that one might not normally think about. The first time we took the Assessment, the ____ section really stumped us….

Talking Points: Once you complete it, you will receive a baseline score report that looks something like this. The report will likely show high scores in areas that are an intentional focus for the company. And it can also help areas for improvement and help set measureable goals towards those improvements.
Talking Points: You can then compare your score against the B Corp Index, which shows the average scores of approximately 2,500 other businesses. B Lab makes this information available for FREE! The index can give you a very useful comparison point for your scores.
Talking Points: B Lab has also built tools to help you understand how you can implement some of the practices mentioned and improve your score. You can use the Customized Improvement Report to show you how much each question is worth and how many points your company earned, so that you can prioritize improvements. You can also use the Best Practice Guides that give specific guidance on how to implement a particular practice.
Talking Points:Why do this? It gives you the power to benchmark your performance against other 2500 that no other tool provides. It should give your employees an opportunity to lead and implement something – especially those that are in thankless roles – an opportunity to turn them into heroes. I guess the question is why not if its free! It is a public good that everyone aught to use.
