  1. 1. RELATION
  2. 2. FUNCTION
  3. 3.  PROCESS QUESTIONS:  1. WHAT COMES IN YOUR MIND HEARING THE WORD RELATION?  HOW WILL YOU DESCRIBE A RELATION IN LIFE OF A PERSON?
  4. 4. { (2 , 5), (3 , 6), (4 , 7), (5 , 8, (6 , 9)}  X = { 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6 }  Y = { 5, 6, 7, 8 , 9 }
  5. 5.  The domain of a relation is the set of all first coordinates of ordered pairs ( x values) .  The range of the relation is the set of all second coordinates of ordered pairs ( y values)  The four representations of a relation:  Mapping Diagram  1 2 3 4 5 2 4 6 8 10
  6. 6.  Table of values X Y 1 2 2 4 3 6 4 8 5 10 Graphing Rule : y is twice the value of x or y = 2x
  7. 7. Function is a special relation in which every element in domain is paired/mapped to exactly one element in the range. Thus, a set of ordered pairs is a function if no two distinct ordered pairs have equal abscissas.
  8. 8. Types of Function  Injective or one to one function – each element of set A paired with exactly one element of set B.  Example Justine Kyle Jaylou Kian Cristylin Althea Rozee Karyl
  9. 9. Many to one function – maps to one or more elements of Set A to same element in Set B Heizel Nina Althea Krisha Carla With honors
  10. 10. Given the ordered pairs: ( 0, 6), ( 1,5 ), ( 2, 4), (3, 3), ( 4, 2), ( 5, 1)  Determine the domain  Determine the range  Make a table of values  Draw a mapping diagram  Draw a graph  State the Rule Assessment for Learning
  11. 11. Evaluation!
