Research focuses on developing knowledge through scientific inquiry, while evidence-based practice focuses on applying current best research evidence in clinical decision making. An example is implementing a fall prevention protocol based on research showing exercise reduces falls. Challenges in applying this were lack of staff buy-in, which was addressed through education highlighting benefits. The Nursing Code of Ethics guides practice, such as upholding patient confidentiality when considering sharing details of a case to improve care. Impaired nurses cannot be praised the same as others due to the ethical duty to protect patients from harm.
