Moving up the corporate ladder is like climbing Himalayas. It’s a tough terrain, time-consuming, and if you don’t have the proper skills you might die. Guys, no one died climbing a corporate ladder. But you get the point: not everyone has the right skills to reach the top. I have learnt from my mentor and seniors , and used these 7 skills to get three promotions rapidly – (i) First. Not only hard work but smart work takes you on the top. This is Golden Rule. Never, never, never forget this. (ii) What is smart work ? You should work in the department which is most valuable to the firm. Why ? This dept is in spotlight & the firm is highly dependent on this dept for growth , so promotions are 2X faster there.(Consider an airline , treasury dept is most valuable because without fund raising airline will die) .Find which dept is the heart beat of your firm.

(iii) Peter Drucker the greatest management guru said “All problems are not equal.” He says work on those one or two problems which are HIGH DOLLAR impact or will solve 80% of your line manager or firm problems. Use 80/20. (iv) What next after the smart work ? Showcase yourself. Meet your boss every week 1-1 & present an engaging visual doc with images : tasks done, problems and achievements. Don’t take this session lightly. Make an impression. Be in his mind always. (v) Build relationship with the super-boss also. Why ? In large firm , he is also engaged in finalizing the promotions. With the permission of your boss , showcase or send an email once a month about your monthly achievements to the super-boss. Don’t forget him. Be in his mind too. He is very valuable. (vi) Why we consider smart phones to be valuable ? Because every year Apple or Samsung upgrade their software with new exciting features. We go crazy to buy them. What does it imply ? Consider Upgrading your brain & mind software with new technical & soft skills in demand. Read books & do free or paid online course. You will be in high demand.

(vii) Finally this one skill , I consider it as Harry Potter’s magic wand which will help you to influence people easily ,open all the doors of success in your life and give you the desired office desk.
