2. Numeracy Unit 1 Assessment Booklet
You will need to complete the following 5 assessment tasks. Method
Task 1 Numeracy Skills and Processes
Smartie Analysis & Local Weather
written response
Task 2 Financial Literacy
Property Finance & Income
written response
Task 3 Planning & Organising
Car, Travel Costs & Time
written response
Task 4 Measurement, Representation and Design

3. Calculating Perimeter and Area of the VCAL room
16 m
6.4m
Perimeter = distance around the shape = 16 + 6.4 + 16 + 6.4 = 44.8m
Area = length x width = 16 x 6.4 = 102.4m sq
Covid-19 restrictions allow 1 person per 4m sq. So how many?

6. Measures of central tendency - Mean & median
• The mean (average) is the average of the numbers. It is easy to
calculate: add up all the numbers, then divide by how many numbers
there are. In other words it is the sum divided by the count.
• Mean of 6, 7 and 11 = (6 + 7 + 11) divided by 3 (because there are
three numbers) = 24/3 = 8
• Mean of 23, 25 and 27 = 25
• Median is the middle number, when ordered.
• Median of 23, 25 and 27 = 25

7. Range and Quartiles
• The range of a data set is the difference between the lowest and
highest value.
• So if the live weight of sheep are:
45, 46, 47, 48, 51, 55, 56, 56, 57, 63, 64, 65kg
The range would be 65 – 45 =
The median weight would be =
The mean (average) weight would be =
Divided into quartiles = 45, 46, 47 : 48, 51, 55: 56, 56, 57 : 63, 64, 65
