BSBITU211 - Produce digital text documents
• This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to digitally
produce word documents in a workplace context.
• It applies to individuals who perform a range of routine tasks in the
workplace, using a limited range of practical skills and fundamental
knowledge of word processing software/applications in a defined
context, under direct supervision or with limited individual
responsibility.
Prepare to produce documents
1. Adjust workspace, furniture and equipment to suit user ergonomic
environments
2. Ensure workspace meets organisational work health and safety
requirements for digital device operation, taking into account the type of
device to be used
3. Identify document purpose, audience and presentation requirements,
and clarify with relevant personnel as required
4. Identify organisational and task requirements for document layout and
design
5. Select most appropriate word processing application to produce
document, in accordance with available resources and organisational
policies
Produce documents digitally
1. Format document using appropriate application functions to adjust
layout to meet information requirements, in accordance with
organisational style and presentation requirements
2. Use application features to identify and manipulate display options
and controls
3. Use relevant help functions to overcome simple issues relating to
document presentation and production
Finalise and present documents
1. Review and edit final document, and prepare for delivery in
accordance with organisational and task requirements
2. Deliver document to relevant audience within designated timelines
and in accordance with organisational requirements
3. Name and store document appropriately in accordance with
organisational requirements and exit application without information
loss
What are digital text documents?
• Letters, invoices, statements of accounts, payslips, spreadsheets – any
digital file with text!
• Different formats – .doc .pdf .txt .ppt .rtf
• Depending on which system the organisation uses, may determine
which files are readable (Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh, Linux)
• Microsoft Windows operating systems are most commonly used in
many organisations – eg SWTAFE
• Word (text), Excel (tables), Outlook (mail), Powerpoint(Presentations)
Ergonomics
• Ergonomics is about creating comfortable working conditions by
adapting workstations, tools and equipment to each worker’s needs.
• Give three examples of how you can set up your workstation so it
meets the ergonomic requirements of your workplace.
1. Adjust your seat to the correct and comfortable height and angle,
depending on your height and distance from the table or desk
2. Adjust your keyboard and screen to make sure they are at the
correct and comfortable distance and angle for typing and
3. Make sure there is sufficient legroom and elbow room to be able to
operate effectively

• Cloud storage and/or local networks
• File naming protocols
• Templates
• Headers/footers
Word-processing applications
Provide two functions or features of each of the following word-
processing applications:
• Microsoft Word
• Google Docs
• Microsoft Publisher
