This document contains coaching logs for an athlete named Phoebe Thorpe. It includes an introduction with her personal details and sport background. There are then three separate coaching log sections: an athlete observation based on video analysis, an athlete profiling meeting, and a coach profiling meeting. For each section, the log records discussion points, concerns, points for future discussion, and possible actions.
3. Coaching Log – Athlete Observation
Date 12/12/2104
Location Video Analysis of 2 games recorded since Jan 2014
Strengths I believe I completed this section well as I watched videos of more
than one game since January and used previous knowledge from
playing with her of her ability.
Improvement
Areas
To improve my observation of Phoebe I should have watched a
couple of games in person before assessing her ability in each of the
excellence traits.
Points for
future
discussion
From this I will make sure any discussions I have with the athlete and
coach are both face to face instead of via video calls or phone calls to
make conversations easier.
Possible
actions arising
I will attend the next game to ensure I believe my initial assessment
of the athlete are correct.
4. Coaching Log – Athlete Profiling
Meeting
Date 09/12/2014
Location Worthing College
Discussion
points
During the meeting with my client Phoebe I began by discussing the
main reasoning and benefits behind performance profiling. Once she
understood this I continued by informing her of the scale and what she
had to do to complete her section of the assessment.
Concerns My biggest concern before going into the interview was her ability to
understand the scale so I took plenty of time to explain what each part
of the scale meant to eliminate this problem.
Points for
future
discussion
I believe my athlete put good effort into the initial meeting and I am
confident that she will remain committed to the performance profiling.
Possible
actions
arising
When we next meet and have to assess her abilities I will ensure I use
the same scale and explain in detail each part of the scale again to
ensure she fully understands it.
5. Coaching Log – Coach Profile Meeting
Date 11/12/2014
Location St. Andrews – after training session
Discussion
points
During the meeting with the coach I began by explaining the importance
of the coaches role within performance profiling. I then took time in
explaining the scale and the importance of him giving an accurate report
on my athlete.
Concerns Again my biggest concern before going into the interview was his ability
to understand the scale so I took plenty of time to explain what each
part of the scale meant to eliminate this problem.
Points for
future
discussion
I would like to discuss whether he agrees with her 4 greatest strengths
and 4 greatest weaknesses that I have found based on all 3 of our
assessments.
Possible
actions
arising
Over the next week I will meet again with the coach to discuss her
biggest strengths and weaknesses.
