   How effective is the
combination of your media
products to ancillary texts?
The links that I have made in my media products are not as strong
as Paramore have done. In the music video Misery Business,
Paramore are preforming in a room covered in the word ‘riot’ and
just one of the words is coloured in orange; they have done this in a
similar way to their album ‘riot’, thus creating a strong link.
I first saw/heard ‘And The Winner Is…’ at B2, a pub which allows
for unsigned bands to preform for free. I noticed how energetic they
were when they played ‘Here Again’. This meant that when I
received the opportunity to make a video for them I was able to create
something that was as energetic as them. I then decided to use this
characteristic throughout my productions
To display the theme in the music video we used handheld shots
and used no transitions to make the change fast and snappy like
the beat. We also showed only scenes where there is a lot of
movement to keep with the approach. The music video also shows how
they are young trendy and like having fun.
To show this in the Digipak I abbreviated the bands name to make
them seem trendy and used a theme that is thought as ‘stylish‘. To
make the theme seem energetic I scribbled over white areas to hint at
this characteristic. To make this link stronger I added a still from
the music video and added it to the back page. The image is of the
lead singer Connor, I decided to have an image of him because he is
the face of the band and is more likely to be recognised.
From using the front cover of the digipak in
the CD advert it shows a clear correlation
between the two, thus showing that the CD
advert is promoting the digipak.
However There is a stronger link than the
energetic characteristic. At the beginning of
the music video there is a black and white
scene of the band jumping into the barn.
Therefore creating a powerful link to the
black and white advert and digipak. Thus
showing how all three are intertwined.
Although this is strong I felt that by
labelling them as energetic it would increase
their popularity and the amount of people
that come to their performances.
