The traditional downtown area of Murad Khane in Kabul, Afghanistan, counts nearly 70 private houses and many larger public and functional spaces. Since 2006, Turquoise Mountain is renovating the whole area, giving work to a majority of its inhabitants, training them to traditional handicraft's excellence and providing education for children. Though works are still going on in some areas, the programme can count as a really successful involvement of a local community in urban planning and cultural heritage preservation and reuse. The result is going to become a most enjoyable open air museum near the Kabul river and one of the main bazaars.
