- 2. Strengths-Based Leadership Report
SURVEY COMPLETION DATE: 04-30-2013
Leader: Colleen Mitchell
Gallup found that it serves a team well to have a representation of strengths in each of the four
domains of leadership strength: Executing, Influencing, Relationship Building, and Strategic Thinking.
Instead of one dominant leader who tries to do everything or individuals who all have similar
strengths, contributions from all four domains lead to a strong and cohesive team. This doesn't mean
that each person on a team must have strengths exclusively in a single category. In most cases, each
team member will possess some strength in multiple domains.
According to our latest research, the 34 Clifton StrengthsFinder themes naturally cluster into these
four domains of leadership strength. See below for how your top five themes sort into the four
domains. As you think about how you can contribute to a team and who you need to surround yourself
with, this may be a good starting point.

Your Personalized Strengths Insights
Strategic
Because of your strengths, you easily enter into dialogue with others. When you have an idea, the
right words, stories, or examples quickly come to mind. The animated give-and-take of debates
stimulates your thinking. Often you gain the advantage by emphasizing irrefutable — that is, cannot
be disproved — facts to support your key arguments. Victory for you means having the final word.
Driven by your talents, you frequently find the precise words to express your thoughts and feelings.

- 3. You spontaneously start conversations with total strangers. You quickly discover what interests them.
You probably enliven discussions by telling stories to illustrate things that capture your attention. By
nature, you are innovative, inventive, original, and resourceful. Your mind allows you to venture
beyond the commonplace, the familiar, or the obvious. You entertain ideas about the best ways to
reach a goal, increase productivity, or solve a problem. First, you think of alternatives. Then you
choose the best option. It’s very likely that you generate ideas quickly. You draw clever linkages
between facts, events, people, problems, or solutions. You present others with numerous options at a
pace some find dizzying. Your innovative thinking tends to foster ongoing dialogue between and
among the group’s participants. Chances are good that you can design innovative plans. You
probably raise issues and identify recurring obstacles as you generate tactical options. Problems and
possible solutions become apparent to you. Once you outline action steps, you quickly execute them
one by one. You refuse to waste time questioning your ideas after everything has been set into
motion.
Positivity
Instinctively, you traditionally decide all is well in your life when you allow each day to unfold on its
own terms. You are apt to feel restricted or boxed in by people who force you to adhere to their plans,
processes, rules, or procedures. You often argue that human beings must be flexible as they plan for
the future. Why? Life is filled with constant surprises and change. You are determined to avoid
creating undue stress for yourself and others by acknowledging this simple fact. It’s very likely that
you are much happier with life when you quit trying to control people as well as the day’s events,
opportunities, or surprises. You experience a sense of freedom each time you relax and live in the
moment. You probably are able to deal with change a lot better as a result. Chances are good that
you typically enhance your own quality of life and sense of well-being. How? You freely and frequently
compliment people. You acknowledge the contributions of individuals. You call attention to their
talents, knowledge, and/or skills. Driven by your talents, you feel rather good about life when people
answer your questions and keep you well informed about topics that affect you personally or
professionally. You prefer to be bombarded with facts, data, or explanations. Receiving only bits and
pieces of information is likely to raise your level of anxiety, suspicion, or frustration. You are apt to
become upset when individuals forget or refuse to tell you something you think you have a right or a
need to know. Because of your strengths, you normally energize discussions with outsiders or
newcomers. How? You encourage them to talk about their successes, talents, or big ideas. Your
animated reactions and interesting questions usually prompt them to describe things in minute detail.
Activator
It’s very likely that you feel a surge of energy when you start talking with newcomers. You typically
generate such enthusiasm in these outsiders that they participate in activities, join teams, register for
classes, or interview for jobs. Because of your strengths, you generate innovative ideas. You offer
unique perspectives on events, people, and proposals. You probably inspire people to start projects
and launch initiatives. You tend to identify a goal, devise numerous ways of reaching it, then choose
the best alternative. This explains why you see opportunities, trends, and solutions before your
teammates, classmates, or peers see them. Chances are good that you celebrate the achievements
and successes of individuals and groups. You compliment them. Your enthusiasm energizes people
and makes them eager to tackle the task at hand. Time and again you say and do things that re-
invigorate their minds, bodies, and spirits. By nature, you rely on your upbeat attitude to help people

- 4. feel enthusiastic about life. You regularly direct their attention to what is good, beautiful, delightful,
right, or possible. Others usually notice it is difficult to feel downcast — that is, in low spirits or
dejected — when in your presence. Driven by your talents, you often scare people by comparing your
performance to theirs. They probably grow quite edgy as your drive to be the best becomes more
evident to them. You typically take advantage of your rivals’ timidity — that is, lack of boldness and
determination. By doing so, you likely earn the best scores, ratings, or rankings.
Woo
Driven by your talents, you sometimes surround yourself with people. Occasionally you are energized
by what you learn about each one. You might feel a particular need to know what makes each person
special, singular, or distinct from others. By nature, you sometimes enjoy surrounding yourself with
companions rather than being alone. Because of your strengths, you assert — that is, declare and
affirm — that every person comes into your life for a definite purpose. This explains why you launch
into discussions or engage in small talk with people you are meeting for the first time. You really want
to figure out why your paths in life have crossed. Instinctively, you usually appear enthusiastic about
life. Most people are energized by your vim and vigor. Often you have thought, “What is there not to
like about life?” You are undoubtedly puzzled by people who see life as a struggle or seldom
experience its joys. Chances are good that you freely share your ideas or feelings with others. Being
tongue-tied — that is, unable to speak freely — is rarely a problem for you. Words quickly come to
mind when you are with people. Your ease with language enables you to meet, greet, and treat
strangers as if they already were your friends.
Futuristic
Chances are good that you think a lot about the coming months, years, or decades. You gravitate to
projects and study subjects that promise to shape the future. You enjoy talking about possibilities that
exist only in your imagination. You probably worry about being left behind if what you know and do
were no longer valued or needed. You prefer to be a pioneer and an inventor. Driven by your talents,
you feel enthusiastic about life when you contemplate everything you can accomplish in the coming
months, years, or decades. You probably need to know what the future holds before you can
concentrate on today’s activities. By nature, you feel wonderful when people value your innovative
and original ideas. You are likely to help them envision what can be accomplished in the coming
months, years, or decades. Because of your strengths, you are enthusiastic about the future because
visionaries describe it so clearly. Their ideas for products, medicines, or inventions generally increase
your determination to do whatever you can to breathe life into their dreams. It’s very likely that you
sharpen your ideas about the future by spending time with possibility thinkers. These individuals
regularly talk about inventions, medicines, designs, technologies, or food supplies that no one else
has even considered.
