This document discusses opportunities for industrial IoT (Internet of Things) applications in cities from the perspective of the Future Cities Catapult organization. It outlines plans to build demonstrator testbeds of IoT technologies in cities to prove their economic and market viability for small businesses and municipalities. It also discusses creating a global database to measure the economic impacts of IoT in cities to inform policymaking and identify opportunities for technology interventions that can benefit local and national economies. The organization is developing experimental city testbeds and smaller testbeds to allow companies to showcase their IoT capabilities as part of building the market case for IoT technologies in cities.

3. BUILDING DIGITAL
STRATEGY IN CITIES
• Building a series of demonstrator test-beds
for IoT in cities
• Creating the world’s first database of
economic impact of IoT in cities
• Proving the market exists and that the
economics are viable for SMEs and cities
alike

10. BUILDING
DEMONSTRATORS
• Two main types of test beds are required:
• Experimental city test beds
• Smaller test beds that allow SMEs to illustrate
their capabilities
