Welcome back
to your
tutorial

In Part I of our
tutorial, we got
to know

about Canva – the
company and the
people behind it.

We were
introduced to the
different design
templates

that makes
designing easy
to start off.

We also learned
about some of
the features

of Canva :
- Search
- Lay outs
- Elements
- Texts

For this tutorial,
we will continue
to explore

the remaining
design elements
we can use

to truly make
beautiful
graphic creations.

Backgrounds
offer a quick
and simple way

Instead of using
a plain white
background

why not choose
from Canva’s
collection of

backgrounds to
make your
design pop out?

to open the
Background folder.

Scroll down and
browse through

Choose from the solid
backgrounds,

patterned or illustrative
backgrounds,

For the last group, you
may choose from

the pre-selected images
in the collection,

from the stock photos
in Free Photos,

To add a background
to your canvas,

choose a color,
pattern or image

It will appear on
your canvas.

You can now start
adding the other

elements to complete
your design.

The last menu item
we need to
familiarize with is…

Uploads
is where your own
photo library is
housed.

It includes Uploads
from your file

Using your own
uploaded photos

adds a personal
touch to your
design.

Now let’s try our
hand at uploading
photos.

Click on the Uploads
tab in your object panel.

to see your computer’s
File Upload box.

Look for the file you
want to upload

it appears on the
filename box below.

Click Open and
the file / photo

is uploaded to your
Canva design page.

Upload as many
photos as you want

and create beautiful
graphics like a pro.

Come on!!
Let’s make our very
own design with Canva.

choose a design
template to work on

The template will appear
as a blank canvas.

For our background, let’s
use an uploaded photo.

Choose the photo
you will use.

Click on it or drag
it to your canvas.

Resize the photo to fit
your template

by dragging the
corner handles

until the image fills
the canvas.

Click anywhere outside
the broken lines

to make the handles
disappear.

Now let’s add some
text to our poster.

to put a heading
on your design.

Click, hold and drag
the text box

to where you want
to position it.

Notice that a vertical
broken line appears

at the center – from
top to bottom.

This will guide you in
centering your design.

Now let’s stretch the
text box sideways

to lengthen it by
dragging the handles.

Next, position the mouse
before the text.

Click, hold and
highlight the entire text.

Then click your
computer’s Delete button

Click Font to see the
dropdown font list.

Choose the font you
want to use

Your text is now written
in the new font.

Now let’s change the
font size.

to see the font size
dropdown list.

Choose the new font
size for your text.

Click on it
to resize your text.

Now let’s pick a
color for the text

if you don’t like the
default black color.

You may choose from
the default palette

or choose your own
color by clicking .

You’ll see the color
palette wheel.

Click, hold and move
your mouse

around the wheel
until you find the

right color shade you
want for your text.

You’ll see the color
shade appear on the

The color code appears
below the color wheel.

Remember this code
as you might use it

again in your design or
in future works.

Check out the new
color of your text !

until it becomes a
2-line text.

Let’s move it a little
higher and

make sure it’s “centered’

when the broken lines
appear in the middle.

Now that the text is
properly placed,

let’s go ahead and
adjust the line spacing

of our text to make it a
little more composed.

Click More to choose
from its features

Click, hold and drag
the Line height

slider button to the
left to automatically

narrow down the height
between text lines.

Click anywhere outside
the design

to remove the
dotted text box.

Click to the left of the
Share button

Type in the new name
of your design

Your design is now
renamed and saved!

and enter the email
addresses of the people

you wish to share
the design with

them edit or
just view your work

by clicking on
your choice in the

Don’t forget to click
Done afterwards.

You can also download
your work.

After creating your
design, Canva will
automatically assign you

the file format that it
thinks is optimal for
your design.

Click Download and
choose the recommended

file type or choose from
the dropdown list

Click Download
and you will see

For downloading to
social media, click here.

To open or save in
your personal file,

choose your option
and click OK.

Using the , browse
through you files and

choose the folder
where you want

it appears in the
Save in box.

Now let’s go back to
your design page

and take a look at
how to save your
designs.

Canva
automatically
saves your design
as you work,

eliminating the need
for you to do it
manually.

When all your work
has been saved,

you’ll see the phrase
“All changes saved”

It means it’s safe to close
your browser / window.

If saving is still in
progress, you’ll see

“Unsaved changes”
displayed instead.

It’s not yet safe to
close your window.

You can manually save
by clicking on

the File tab on the
dashboard and

You must now
be raring
to try Canva out
for yourself.
