Price Surge of Chinese Vitamins: More a Fruit of the M & A Wave
1. Price Surge of Chinese Vitamins: More a Fruit of the M & A Wave
In 2014, China’s animal husbandry and feed markets are relatively weak, but the vitamin market
appears unusually hot, with the price of most varieties surges. This is mainly driven by the rising
environmental protection awareness, dramatic changes in the international trade, and emerging
industry M & A (mergers and acquisitions, such as DSM acquiring Aland) and restructuring
activities.
According to CCM’s recent research, vitamin prices in China has went up in 2014 as the demand
gradually restores in European and American markets, and domestic consumption recovered
since the second quarter, however, the overall demand is lower than that in 2013. So the price
rise is mainly due to the changes in the competitive landscape. Since 2007, the market price and
product profit have witnessed sharp changes, which have increased corporate concentration and
changed the competitive landscape.
