18th June 2010
Dear Colleague
ACADEMIES BILL 2010
Please find attached an interim briefing paper relating to the new Academies.
This paper has been compiled in conjunction with recent guidance issued by
the National Society and other Diocesan colleagues.
You will appreciate that this is a fast moving and complex area; and this
briefing can only serve as a starting point for questioning and decision making.
Further briefings and information will be forwarded to schools as the picture
becomes clearer; and schools are requested to contact the Diocesan Schools’
Team for more advice and support.
Schools are reminded that they are strongly advised to contact the Diocese
PRIOR to submitting an expression of interest, and also to note that the
National Society’s belief is that the Diocesan Board of Education will be
required to approve any decision made by a school’s governing body to apply
for academy status.
Information will be provided to schools as soon as it becomes available and
will also be available on our web-site www.exeterccyp.org
With best wishes
Alyson Sheldrake
