Outline
4. 2012 GHG Emission in China
China GHG emission (excluding LUCF) in 2012 was 11896 Mt CO2e
CO2 accounted for the largest portion of emission, which is 83.2%,
followed by CH4 (9.9%), N2O (5.4%)
Energy sector, which accounted for 78.5%, is the largest contributor
Agriculture contributed around 7.9% of national total
主要温室气体排放占比
5. 2012 GHG Emission from Agriculture Sector
China agriculture GHG emission in 2012 was 938 MtCO2e
Cropland accounted for the largest portion, 40.3%
Livestock sector contribute 39.8%.
Enteric
24.1%
Manure
15.7%
Rice cultivation
18.9%
Cropland
40.3%
Field burning
1.1%
6. 2012 GHG Emission from Livestock Sector
China livestock GHG emission in 2012 was 373 Mt CO2e
Enteric contributed to 60.5% of livestock emission
Manure CH4 and N2O are responsible for 18.8% and 20.7%, respectively
7. 13th five-year plan for economic and
social development
China Responded to Global climate change
While working hard to both adapt to and slow down climate change, we
will take active steps to control carbon emissions, fulfill our commitments for
emission reduction
Greenhouse gas emissions control
Effectively control carbon emissions in key industries
Control the emissions of Non-CO2 greenhouse gases.
Estabilishment of a national carbon trading scheme
Implement MRV system and quota management for major emitters
Improve statistical systems
During the 13th five-year period, carbon dioxide emissions per
unit GDP will decrease by 18% as a binding indicator
8. China Nationally Determined
Contributions
China NDC are as follows
To achieve the peaking of carbon dioxide emissions around 2030 and making best efforts to
peak early
To lower carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by 60% to 65% from the 2005 level
Agricultural related content in NDC
To promote the low-carbon development in agriculture, making efforts to achieve zero
growth of fertilizer and pesticide utilization by 2020
To control methane emissions from rice fields and nitrous oxide emissions from farmland
To construct a recycle agriculture system, promote comprehensive utilization of crop wastes
and animal manure
10. The Scope of Livestock GHG Inventory in 2012
Methodologies
《1996 IPCC Guideline》
《IPCC GPG》
The Scope of 2012
CH4 from Enteric Fermentation
CH4 from Manure Management
N2O from Manure Management
Not reported in livestock sector :
N2O emission from manure after land application
N2O emission from grazing animals
11. Sources of GHG in Livestock Sector
Enteric CH4
Including 12 categories of animals: Cattle(Dairy cow、Beef cattle、Buffalo、
yak、Other cattle)、Sheep(Goats、Sheep)、Horses、Asses、Mules、 Camels
、Swine
Manure CH4 and N2O
14 categories of animals:12 categories in the enteric sector + Poultry + Rabbit
13 types of manure management systems Pasture/Range/Paddock , Daily
spread , Solid storage , Dry lot , Liquid/Slurry, Uncovered anaerobic lagoon , Pit
storage below animal confinements , Anaerobic digester , Burned for fuel, Deep
bedding, Composting, Aerobic treatment and Others)
