A presentation by Fergal Coleman at the Mindshop conference in Sydney, Australia, May 2011. The talk covers how technology is enabling changing behaviours in every facet of life. It explores the lessons that can be learnt from the dot.com bubble and the parallels between todays social media bubble and the late 90's and early 2000's. Attendees were then provided with a framework for implementing social media followed by a range of examples and case studies from the real world

What happens when everyone’s on Facebook? How in particular is the natural wish of young people to have their own places and cultures manifesting itself digitally? Moreover, how are we all changing our behaviour in light the data that we’re increasingly aware we give up when we use social sites? Is the often cited, rarely challenged belief that young people don't care about privacy actually true? How are kids coping with a world where they are growing up in public? Are the scare stories true, or is something more subtle emerging? We look at Tumblr, Instagram and Snapchat amongst others for clues to how behaviour is changing and - what this means for the audience, the networks and brands. We examine how a far more nuanced contract between these groups is being negotiated - and how to thrive in this emerging world. How do brands cope with younger groups sophistication when it comes to being marketed to - particularly given the huge global demographic shift due to take place, with over 50% of world's population due shortly to be under 25.

Technology should be a beneficial force in our lives, taking the world in exciting new directions and making us better humans. To ensure this, we need to facilitate a conversation between data technology and the human experience. Keeping social responsibility and ethical behavior in mind when designing AI systems enables us to put the right systems in place to contribute to the society we want, fostering higher levels of cognitive and emotional skills. Jivan Virdee and Hollie Lubbock explore how to address fairness, accountability, and the long-term effects on our society when designing with data, focusing on four key areas for consideration in this space: — Responsibility and accountability for machine learning systems — Fair and transparent data science — Trust and human-machine collaboration —Automation and changes in the way we work Along the way, they cover key issues in creating ethical AI systems and detail how we might go about tackling them and outline further questions that will need to be addressed going forward. The U.S. Department of Labor holds training events each year to help train its grantees in various skills. I've been invited to speak on social media on several occasions, including the YouthBuild 2013 event in Boston. I presented What is #CareerGravity; an introduction to the new landscape for job seeking and talent management. Just as social media has fundamentally changed online marketing, it has also transformed the job market. This presentation provides a high level overview of exactly what those transformations are and how job seekers can leverage them.

This presentation was presented at Microsoft's Women Think Next conference. I reviewed the current state of women in the business world, and focused on digital women. I used research done by Harvard Business Review to show the age breakdown where women leave technology professions and simply break out from the industry. My presentation ends with practical tips: how women working in IT companies can use the Social Media to professionally lead and influence. I have described that as a "work around" option. Companies success in Social Media relies on the professional team members sharing their insights and works. I believe that women can find that stage as a source for learning, improving and leading. .

Presentation by Charlene Li at Adobe Summit, March 7, 2013 in Salt Lake City, UT. Description; New technologies pop up every day that allow us to now connect and communicate with each other in real time. Yet marketing organizations are wired for a by-gone era when there was the luxury of time. These new dynamic customer relationships require not only a new mindset, but also new skills, capabilities, and organizations.

Free presentation tips from a TED Talk Presenter with over 40 million views. Have you ever felt like you’re talking, but nobody’s listening? After reaching 40 million views on his TED Talks, Julian Treasure teamed up with Fishbole to produce 3 powerful lightning talks. 'HOW TO SPEAK SO PEOPLE WANT TO LISTEN' Watch the video of talk#2 here - http://a.fsbl.io/p/jQzSnDdlXKqHZu1l First four slides are introduction slides. Slide 5: Great speakers just speak well they say good things the content is critical babble on for ages you can really these people if you speak in the very endearing way now I think you need to stand in four powerful things. Slide 6: HAIL which stands for honesty, authenticity, integrity and love. Being clear and straight and what you say being yourself in the way that you put it across and how you say Integrity being your word if you say it and it happens your words have power and love which simply means wishing people well. Slide 7: Lets get on to the content whether you are going to inform people instruct them in something or inspire them you want to change them during the course of this three minute talk ask yourself the question 'so what' does it mean to them and what are you trying to achieve Slide 8: you need to think about your intentions for you what you want to have at the end of this and for them actually where do you want to be, what's the arch you want to put them on Slide 9: you might think about why that should listen what it is you want them to do and how they go you do it those three things it really helps you to move between those levels Slide 10: whatever you do I do suggest that you take care to avoid too many of these this is your Slide 11: typical slide and I'm sure you're reading ahead and you get the idea that this is not wildly interesting I tend to avoid using this as you can see and I think on fishbole it's a great opportunity to design terrific high impact slides that perhaps depart from this norm. Slide 12: If you want some tips on that there is a great book I recommend "Garr Reynolds' book called presentations zen is absolutely outstanding so those are some tips on designing great content and I hope that useful to you when creating wonderful Fishbole presentations. Free presentation tips from a TED Talk Presenter with over 40 million views. Have you ever felt like you’re talking, but nobody’s listening? After reaching 40 million views on his TED Talks, Julian Treasure teamed up with Fishbole to produce 3 powerful lightning talks. Watch the video of talk#1 here - http://a.fsbl.io/p/6ckkvv4VpY6bZ5xY First four slides are introduction slides. Slide 7: We all have a vocal toolbox not many people know how to use it so here are some secrets for you to improve your speaking. Slide 8: First of all get your head above your shoulders hard to speak when you were speaking forward like this, or like this, it changes your voice, so head above the shoulders. Slide 9: and then breath the fuel for your voice the thing that makes its all work and the antidote to nerves and full breathing. Slide 10: Then we have pace and Pitch are you can get really excited and go fast or you can slow right down to make a point and we associate depth with Power and Authority so get your voice deep in your chest and you'll be more effective. Slide 11: Prosody the song of speech very boring to speak hold on one note very interesting so get prosody and really give some emotion a meaning to what you say. Slide 12: Then we have timbre the texture of your voice we like voices that the way you would describe the hot chocolate. Dark, Rich, smooth and so forth if that's not you don't panic how to get a vocal coach and in just a few lessons you can really improve the way your voice sounds. Slide 13: finally space and that means silence even in 3 minutes you can use silence very well so you don't have to gabble in order to be effective I hope those are being helpful to you and do not forget there were two more talks in this little series on speaking powerfully. Slides for speech at HR Tech Expo by NCHRA on August 25, 2017. Based on research by Prophet "HR as a Force for Digital Change" available at https://goo.gl/qu7rN3. Description: Transformations are never easy, and the digital transformation is doubly so because of the technology angle. HR leaders must work the fine line between pushing executives and teams to be agile and change faster, while still enabling the organization to deliver on near-term objectives. We'll examine the challenges and opportunities that digital creates, and the crucial role that HR leaders play in bringing about the transformation needed to help your organization thrive in the digital era.

Presentation at Seminarium Peru on 15 November 2012 by Charlene Li in Lima. Two presentations were given. Speech #1: Creating A Successful Social Business Marketing Strategy With almost a billion members, Facebook's growth and stature is representative of the maturing social media landscape. Social technologies are no longer a bright shiny object, instead representing valuable relationships that require a coherent strategy and disciplined execution. This session will make a case that social technologies should be a mainstay of your marketing program rather than a second cousin of interactive marketing. We'll look at the implications of this priority shift, using case studies from companies who are making changes to their overall business and marketing programs. We'll also go through a checklist of the actions you'll need to prioritize to be successful. Speech #2: Title: Marketing In The Era Of Social Technologies The excitement around social media often centers on the technologies -- Facebook, blogs, Twitter, etc. etc. But this is the wrong approach. Rather than think about crafting a strategy around social technologies, leaders should be pondering how they can use social technologies to support and strengthen customer relationships. For many, Groundswell was the book that broke down barriers to accepting social technologies as an opportunity to make their businesses better. Open Leadership picks up where Groundswell left off, showing leaders how to open up business and create a culture that will make social media adoption–and on a greater level, adoption of a social business model–possible and successful. We'll be looking at the art -- and the science -- of how to tap into the power of customers and employees, including examples of what organizations and leaders are successfully doing today, as well as how to get your organization started.

Keynote at Where Conference, April 3, 2012 by Charlene Li. Description: Our personal devices provide endless streams of data set in context of who we are, where we are, who we know, and what we do. But what can we realistically expect the future to look like, and how soon will it be before it gets here? The key is to understand what new opportunities are unleashed through the combination of these different contextual data – and overlay what is probably given business model, social, technology, and political constraints. We’ll also look at what this brave new world means in terms of actions you must take today.

In 2011, the US hit a milestone — more than half of all adults visit social networking sites at least once a month. But when it comes to using social-networking technologies inside organizations, many business leaders are at a loss to understand what value can be created from Facebook-like status updates within the enterprise. Some organizations have deployed social-networking features with an initial enthusiastic reception, only to see these early efforts wither to just a few stalwart participants. The problem: Most companies approach enterprise social networks as a technology deployment and fail to understand that the new relationships created by enterprise social networks are the source for value creation. In this first of two reports, Altimeter looks at four ways enterprise social networks create value for organizations.

Your voice, smiling, facial expressions, body language, and genuine Hospitality are tightly connected. Always strive to be a Hospitality service professional. The importance of Smiling is vital in the hospitality industry. People who were or are being raised and educated on digital devices have not had the opportunity to learn and use the necessary and multiple communication skills the way previous generations did. It's a lost art that needs to be presented to the generations that followed the Baby Boomers. These are the generations alive today: Generation X, Generation Y (Millennials), Generation Z, and Generation Alpha.

This paper "Beyond the Codes: Repositioning Towards a Sustainable Development," presented in 2013, underscores the crucial role of effective communication in driving sustainability within engineering practice. While traditional engineering approaches have relied heavily on codes of measurement and standardization to ensure safety and efficiency, the paper argues for a fundamental repositioning of engineering towards sustainability. This repositioning, depicted as going "beyond the codes," urges engineers to integrate sustainability principles into their work. Engineers must recognize that sustainability encompasses environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic prosperity, transcending mere compliance with technical standards. This broader mandate requires engineers to engage in dialogue with diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and communities. Effective communication becomes paramount in fostering collaboration and garnering support for sustainable initiatives. Moreover, engineers must embrace a new mindset that positions sustainability as a core aspect of their profession. They must advocate for sustainability within their organizations, challenging existing norms, and championing innovative solutions. This shift in perspective requires engineers to become proficient communicators, capable of articulating the value proposition of sustainability to various audiences. Internal communication within engineering firms is equally vital, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Engineers must share knowledge, expertise, and best practices to accelerate the adoption of sustainable technologies and practices. Visual communication tools, such as data visualization, can aid in conveying complex technical information effectively. Ultimately, the paper emphasizes that effective communication is essential for repositioning engineering towards sustainability. By embracing communication as a core competency and championing sustainability, engineers can navigate the complexities of the 21st century and pave the way for a more sustainable future.

Software developers are intended to be massive, highly leverageable value creators for their companies and teams - using their creative and technical talent to build products themselves or mission-critical systems that facilitate the delivery of value inside the business. The blunt truth, however, is that many software developers would screw up tying their own shoes when left to their own devices. There's an abundant corpus of work out there on how managers routinely let down their software developers through insufficient planning, communication, listening, and support. In this talk we're going to explore the inverse - how individual software developers contributing to a project unintentionally sabotage their teams, their companies, their projects, and themselves through: * Immutable technical preferences + biases; * Bad attitudes; * Poor listening; * Inflexible and unproductive learning styles; * Risk aversion; * Incuriosity; * And more! Most importantly, in this talk we're going to try to address how we can help shift developers who want to learn and improve, but are have trouble executing, become the high value contributors they'd like to be.
